Does anybody know this guy Zak Smith? He did some art project making an illustration for each page of
Gravitys Rainbow
, and he also acts in porn movies under the name Zak Sabbath. I've never seen his art or his porn, but I read about him all the time on Fleshbot, which seems to worship him second only to Joanna Angel.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I saw him in the Miami airport yesterday. Part of me wanted to kill him, part of me wanted to be him.
I fucking hate that guy.
Although I can think of many, many reasons to hate this guy--he's a bourgeois fuckstick, he went to Yale, he's working in porn, he's successful, he went to Yale--those Gravity's Rainbow illustrations are really fascinating.

i just read something in locus magazine about how he had to change the name of that gravity's rainbow art book from "gravity's rainbow illustrated" to "pictures of what happens on every page of gravity's rainbow", because the publisher sued him. apparently "gravity's rainbow illustrated" sounded like it was authorized by the publisher, which it wasn't, so they objected. the new title makes it sound like it's being published by mcsweeney's.

When Amazon has this "Better Together" feature to get you to buy more stuff, well, it generally makes sense. This one, however, has me puzzled. The item is a Limited Edition Pink Cross Pen. This is their suggestion:

I'm going to go with pens being difficult to accessorize, therefore they just went with something equally luxurious.

So I'm cooking breakfast while my girl studies, and I learn this: eunuchs have long, gangly arms and legs because they lack the hormones to close the growth plates. I had no idea a "eunuchoid phenotype" even existed.

totally random, shout out if that's the right term? to heather marie for her "big lots" reccomendation in the how to life the good life for 10 bucks thread, i was walking by one and remembered her love for the big lots, and sure enough there are some good cheap deals! little travel size things for under a dollar, and gift wrap and bags, paper plates that kind of stuff. reminded me of ocean state job lot back at home. granted some of the stuff was sketch, but there is a large chain of drug stores going out of business "rite-aid" and apparently they got all thier crap to sell off for next to nothing.
that is all.

Woah... Rite Aid is going out of business in SF?
So, my college roommate was from San Diego and he worked at a Rite Aid and talked about it fairly frequently, even though I had never been to one. Now in Detroit, I buy shitty beer for cheap at the Rite Aid and I feel some kind of cosmic connection to him through our mutual Rite Aid experiences. But I guess that cosmic connection is coming to an end.

Well, no not all of them, at least I don't think, but definately the one near me is because of the Walgreens competition around the corner and thier lease was up and there was a apparently a jump in rent so huge Rite Aid decided to close it. Actually, I may be making an assumption its Rite Aid too because big lots didn't name the chain, I just assumed because I know the one by me is going out. If the rent wasn't so crazy high, I was considering that site for my cafe - but that high of a rent does not fit in my plan so, can't do it, its a kick-ass location though.

1. Walgreens sucks. They don't sell booze (or at least it's getting phased out).
2. Totally unrelated, but other than the cafe dream, do you have any experience or training in business? Just wondering...

Yes. Sounds resumeish but over 10 years experience. I can't believe that it's been that long, but alas, it has! I also have an MBA. Why? do you need help with something? Hit me up on email if you want, I'll try and help.
I have no specific experience with running a cafe, but I have the business part down, and financing, so I may hire a consultant to help me flesh out the other "restauranteur" parts that I've never had direct experience with, I deal with very large fortune 500 type organizations now so I don't have much experience with very small businesses.

hey if you're gonna be bothering with actually writing something on paper you're going to need some form of entertainment to ease your pain. i'm guessing that not even
limited edition
pens come with firefox yet.
