Kirby Pucket just died.
the Twins were my life when I was a kid.

oh shit.

kirby was my favourite ballplayer.  my dad used to take me and my brother to twins games all the time.  i loved the metrodome because of all the wind in the entrance way.

so i am in the middle of cleaning out my attic right now, (i'm on a break because i need to pace myself, and by pace myself just means i'm lazy) so i am on a pace break right now but ANYWAYS! so i look over in the corner of the attic and all dusty and stuff is this picnic basket.  my sister gave it to me about 9 years ago when i moved to boston from our town because she thought i would use it on a fabulous romantic picnic in the public garden or something. so yeah that never happened. it got dragged with me and moved three other times and to three other apartments, because each time i guess i went to move it. i thought well maybe i should keep it. never know. so i looked at it tonight and thought that's it, i'm not dragging this basket all the way to SF only to have it sit there never used on a wonderful romantic picnic.  so i thought that's it, i am craigslisting this thing. so i took pictures of it.

so as i was downloading the photos, i thought, wait, maybe i should hold on, maybe i will go on a lovely picnic in golden gate park and i will want to use that basket.  but what do you guys think? out with the old? and stop hanging on to thoughts like that because its not healthy? or drag it yet again to another place?  my fear is its some bad luck basket that someone will bring to my damn funeral and say "and she never got her picnic, poor mary" and they will bury me with it!  so that part of me wants to toss it.  maybe i should send to to max, he probably would put it to better use!  i don't know but the whole thing has made me a little sad.    that the basket sat unused all these years. it sort of has become a symbol of my unlucky in love life.  

or how about this, maybe i should take it and make my own damn pinic by myself and use the basket. or something?



*(note one fork missing because i ran out of forks and was too lazy to clean any and snagged one from the basket when i lived in newton corner an it got folded into my regular usable fork rotation never to return to the unused basket, i must have been "pacing myself" loading the dishwasher that night)

yeah i don't know andrew, i'm hemorrhaging hope lately.  it's not pretty. but i won't torch it.  

but somehow a movie scene came to mind, like i would be setting it afire and clark gable or jimmy stewart would come bye and say "now that's a waster of a perfectly good basket there little lady" and i'd get all huffy in like the do in old movies. and say "well its none of your concern now IS IT!"

and then we would fall madly in love and yeah you know happy ending all that.

re: hemorrhaging hope... i can relate. i'm so bummed out lately. i feel so lonely, but i just have no hope anymore about ever meeting anyone i could really connect with. it seems so fucking impossible. like, if it could have happened, it would have by now.

yep. i'm usually hopeful, but lately. i don't know. people say "oh you don't know what's around the corner" and its like i want to say. this is ME there are no corners! its one long white hallway and i can see right down it. sometimes that's how i feel.  

it passes though and hope comes back.

and seriously, being alone is not all that terrible, it has it's benefits, besides i figure if being alone is the worst thing to beset me for the rest of my life, i'd probably be doing okay.  there are worst things.  

also, me personally, i never had a real serious BF so you don't miss what you don't know in a lot of ways. i don't really know any other way to be. i'm comfortable being alone.

Personally, yes, I'd go for a solitary celebration "I'm on my own in a new city and treating myself like a princess" picnic when you get there, not least of which because then you get to be the sophisticated lady sitting there with her actual glass of wine and her actual non-plastic cutlery looking all mysterious and stuff.

*then* when you do get into the right conversation with a cute boy, that basket is gonna be a fantastic line - after all, you don't have to tell them that you've used it before... just that you've got this picnic basket that you really want to christen with an SF picnic so what are they doing this weekend.
