nope. things have attributes, which one can like or dislike. "taste" is not one. the different things that it tastes like are.

i don't think i understand what you mean by this.

Prunes are delicious. Raisins are a bit sweet for my tastesw, but have their uses.

see? that is all i was trying to get. GI does not like raisins because he finds them too sweet. that is a reason. he didn't just say "they don't taste good."

i just hate it, can't stand it, when people present an incomprehensible viewpoint with absolutely no reasoning. subjectivity be damned, it's not hard to say "i don't like this because _______."

In my opinion, the demand for externally verifiable data points of reference in expressing gustatory preference demonstrates a naively over-analytical theory of mind, and neglects the pivotal and incorrigibly subjective nature of qualia when it comes to sense perceptions.

Qualia. Why bring up a word nobody can agree on what it means? For instance, the dominant way (as it's been presented to me) of using the term qualia makes it a nonsense to talk of it as subjective, qualia being the elements (properties, qualities) of a object as they are presented to experience independent of any experience.

I agree with you, and I think Reese is being a bit facetious, but you were totally one-upping him in that regard.

Reese, it's been commonly accepted since the time of Kant that the taste of something is a product of the mind, not of the thing being tasted. Same goes for colour. You get people who disagree, but it's a pretty well-established fact.

But God-dammit!

Just think of them as having dysfunctional neural processes.  The chemical composition of the raisin is the same, it's their erroneous brain that makes it taste "bad"

i think a re-read of coldforge's post will confirm that your humour-detector's missed a beat here. his whole post was deliberately wordy.

i may be wrong though. certainly raisins are serious business.

I realize it doesn't have much bearing here, but I did notice that in the Wire, junkies often refer to themselves as vikings when discussing the amounts of heroin they're using/how often they use.

Yup. Johnny says it at least once or twice in the first season (around the time when he's about to get out of the hospital--Bubs is hoping that maybe he'll go into recovery or at least slow down, but Johnny asks him who has the best package and says "I'm a viking, homes") and again in the third, not long before... well, you know. Down in Hamsterdam.
