Making me happy currently:  I'm awake!  It's not even ten am yet!  I was worried that I was gonna start sleeping in all the time after staying up half the night on the internet!

I would like to move that the title of this thread not include unsavory terms for feces, in the event that someone sees me browsing this at work.

Perhaps the pig could be happy that he is in strawberry jam, or something.

I don't think it would get me in trouble, but I imagine that if one of bosses saw it, they might shift uncomfortably and there would be a long pause and they'd be like, "So... uh... what are you reading?"

Also it would offend the delicate sensibilities of my girlfriend, LBF.

Going to my buddy Bob's house today.  Bob is an old college roommate of mine and one of my closest friends.  He's also my brewing apprentice.  All of my brewing equipment is over there.  We'll be bottling the brown ale today and brewing up an IPA if we have the time.  Beer=happy.

I just came from a run in the hellish summer heat.  I kinda wanted to die, but then I got a glass of cold water from the tap.  This tap gives me cold water TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR, WHENEVER THE FUCK I WANT IT.

This is one of those times that civilization is making me really happy.

this is a random thing to make me happy, but:

last night i was reading through a back issue of locus magazine, and gary wolfe's review column reviewed the following books, in this order:

-"sixty days and counting" by kim stanley robinson
-"empire" by orson scott card
-"next" by michael crichton

he started out by talking about how michael crichton's nuttiness got him an advisory position to some senate panel on global warming (which, as those of you familiar with crichton will know, crichton considers an insidious myth, the perpetuation of which is the fault of a shadowy cabal of power-mad scientists), and how kim stanley robinson is actually much smarter about the whole thing but, because he's not nuts, will never be in the position of someone like crichton. then he switched to talking about card's new one, which i'm sure tempted him to be snarky, but instead he was really understated and witty about tearing it apart. the resulting review was fucking SCATHING, but subtly so, which made it even better. then he spent very little time on crichton's new one--just long enough to point out how sober and intelligent card can seem if you follow his writing immediately with crichton's. apparently the crichton book is about a genetically-modified chimp that some scientists attempt to pass off as a human kindergartener? sounds like a bad sitcom.

anyway, reading the column was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. sure, you could argue that wolfe was preaching to the choir in my case, but sometimes being in the choir is fun.

so recently I've been felling like every time I turn around I am running into or stuck in a conversation with someone I don't want to see. Surreal and uncomfortable! And sometimes they are just plain mean. heh.

anyway! Last night we went to a diner for some coffee because they are the only things open at night in pennsylvania and I was dreading running into more grumpy people. But instead? I saw some kids I haven't seen in YEARS and they were happy! and I was happy! And they spoke to me and it was generally nice.

So I'm just happy to be reminded that leaving the house, while risky, can be rewarding as well. ding ding.

Also, the guy from the caravan next to ours came and offered to sell me a packets of Drum cigarettes and Malboro rolling tobacco. At first I thought he'd got that mixed up and had Drum rolling tobacco and Malboro cigarettes, but NO, he indeed had Drum cigarettes and malboro rolling tobacco. Either this is a special special day or these things have been available all the time. LPTJ smokers let me know if you've even seen anything like this.

I bought a new turntable for 30 euros from some random woman at a flea market. It's apprently never been used and I just checked to see if it works and it does! Woohoo! No more living without a turntable!

Michael Crichton was my favourite author when I was in sixth grade.  By seventh he was replaced with Tom Clancy.  Now, THAT is an embarassing admission.

Making me happy:  it was super hot out just a bit ago, and then, outta nowhere, it just started POURING and thundering and it was glorious.  The rain was so loud I could hear it over the McLusky I've been blasting.  Then the rain disappeared nearly as quickly as it came.  I wouldn't've minded it sticking around a bit longer, but still, this is one of the things I love the most about spring/early summer.

I envy you!  As reported earlier, I found a turntable in the street.  Unfortunately, it doesn't work.  I'm not sure what's wrong with it, either.  The belt works, there's a needle, but no sound comes out.  It may be the audio cables.

Sitting outside the caravan on a deckchair my friend Kerry just brought over, listening to some Propaghandi 'cause of Jeb and Greg's encouragment, watching some kids play football as the sun comes down, and drinking a few beers to pull me down from my caffiene buzz. It's real nice out here tonight I love how half the people on the site are holiday makers and the others, like me and sophie, just live here, it gives the place a peaceful but everchanging kinda vibe. In a bit I'm going to watch some Northern Exposure and eat some veggie byriani, and more then likely I'll post some more.
