Yeah so I saw Jandek tonight.

And maybe the Slime. But I'm not sure. I gave someone a hard stare in any case.
I'll write up some more in a bit. It was so good.

omg if you were the person i was sitting next too I am sooo sorry.  Cause i was totally into it, but I brought my friend (the one with long hair) and like he's not so much and when ever i saw his face durring the thing it just made me crack up(well it was a nose laugh to myself but i felt like such a fuck) because he had the most weirded out glare.  Then I see you(?) starring and I was like "shit shit shit" i am making people mad.  If that was you, really I am very sorry....and wtf that is ridiculous if we sat together at random.

But the show was so amazing.  He is such a mystery.  The whole set I a just kept thinking "what the hell did this woman do to him", because the songs were so full of hurt and fear.  Jandek himself hardly even looks human.  His eyes were tiny black black dots and he moved to so slow methodically.  Watching him play the bass...it wasn't like he can't play guitar but rather it was like watching somone who has never heard music before.

The other musicians were insane too!  That drummer was soooo fast, and all those sounds he made with bow.  The trumpet player was a horse too.  I am so glad I got to see that.

Ha, don't be. that wasn't me.

Yeah, the band was really great I thought. Like that part one of the many times the lyrics referenced locking himself in the house when the horn players started making these whimpering, sputtering noises... I knew nothing about these guys going in but I was really impressed, especially with the trumpet player. And the drummer, how he kept changing the kit setup, the great moment when he reached over and hit a cymbal that was just sitting on the floor. I haven't heard the other live shows, but I suspect Jandek took more of a backseat here musically- playing these droney bass parts mostly. But then he did write over two hours of material and the lyrics all seemed connected- talking about THE WHIRLPOOL and the House of Despair (you go and look through the blinds... check the plumbing... get comfortable there)
He even cracked some jokes... but they were sad jokes.

I think I saw you walk by in the parking lot. that's all. I was sitting in a car eating a bagel wearing a hawaiian shirt.

The bagel was wearing wearing a shirt, and was being eaten by a car.

i could have lived w/ a shorter set, to be honest.

still glad i saw the myth in person, though.  funny how that even in public, he did a lot of hiding (no words spoken, wide brimmed hat, and kept his face behind the music stand/lamp)

I don't know.. you don't just take an hour-long siesta in the House of Despair. No you stay there for at least two hours.

Damn.

This thread made me go to the Guide to Jandek site, where I read that dude's playing Montreal, which I could actually attend - not that expensive to get there if I go for a weekend of fun that I richly deserve, I have free lodging, Montreal's one of the funner places on the planet, yada yada yada. So I checked the date on that, and hes' playing there...tonight.

Two and a half hours to make a five hour drive. And I don't actually have a car.

So no Jandek for me.

Sucks.
