I got censused on Sunday!  It was kind of weird, because the guy doing the census is actually someone I've known for awhile, but not well, and I don't like him much, so it was a little confusing that he showed up at my door.  Anyway, as it turns out, I am one of two households representing downtown Milledgeville.  It works well, because I'm not actually a bad representation of the area.  It also makes me feel important!  Me and one other household will represent downtown M'ville to the country, and really to the world.  It's like being anonymously famous.  I am quite excited, even though it doesn't *really* matter.

That's awesome!

The only time I was censused was last year in Korea.  Weird, huh?

Well, it was kind of awkward (and I just noticed what an awkwardly spelled word awkward is, way to go English!) having that particular guy show up at my apartment, but I think it's kinda fun.  Just think, if I wanted to, I could totally skew the data about my area!

Just after I got out of college, myself and my roommate at the time got selected to be a Nielsen household.  It wasn't near as excited as they made it sound.

my roommate and i were censused in 2000. we were living in a one-bedroom apartment in which we shared the bedroom, dorm-style. we pretty much didn't have a pot to piss in. i wonder what the hell they learned from us.

Judging from recent changes in student loan policy, I would imagine they learned that they could still squeeze some pennies out of that demographic.

I'm not actually sure if this sampling was for the census proper.  He said something about unemployment.

Isn't the census proper only every ten years?

Also LOL @ Dave's joke

A census is by definition counting every member of a population. They probably do sampling between censuses on which to base their estimates. It's a statistically sound method.

I meant to respond to this bit.  A few years ago, i also got selected for this, but I didn't do it.  I mean, I've watched more tv this year than I have in like the past five years combined, and most of that has been on dvd.  The way it was explained, though, sounded like a massive amount of work--filling out charts and what not.  No thanks.

i can't believe brian hasn't posted in this thread yet...he was a census taker for a while, and, as per usual, has good stories about it.
