if Clausen really IS the QB of the future, then it still makes sense to redshirt him
If Clausen's as good as he's supposed to be, there's no chance of him using all his eligibility.
My question re: Clausen is much more pressing: WTF is going on with that dude's hair?

Fair enough, but there is a chance of him getting horribly injured behind an o-line with 0 starts between all of them.

I'm just suspicious of the hype.  I kept having to hear about how great Brady Quinn was, even as he lost every big game he ever played.  And usually by 30 points.

The Packers are looking fairly good this year, if Favre can hold it together and not throw a million interceptions.

that guy should have retired half a decade ago.

You know, I have some mixed emotions about it.  Favre can be great, but he keeps getting more and more sketchy as the years go by.  I think he still thinks he can make the magic happen, but the magic tends to turn into interceptions.  However, being a sentimental Packers fan, I can't speak ill of him.

And plus, the rest of the team is rather young!

Looking at the scores from tonight and gaaaaaah I hate you Boise St. pride goeth etc etc.

I think it'll even be sweeter if they go all season unbeaten, have all the sportscasters wring their hands, "Oh my, should they get a BCS championship birth?  Oh, my!"  then have them get beat by Hawaii.  Don't let me down, Rainbow Warriors.

okay, its a bit juvenile, but had to be done . . .

what's with all the Boise St. hate?  is that a Big Sky country phenomenon?

It's more the perpetual hate of an ND fan towards schools who play the cakest of cake schedules, then bitch about how they don't get a better bowl.

The only Big-Sky related portion is my abiding hatred for the entire goddamn whitebread Tim McVeigh bullshit land that is Idaho, but that's secondary.

Holy balls Jones looked worse than I could've possibly imagined.  Sharpley looked way better than I could've hoped.  He's the guy; I think our biggest problem is the o-line.

The defense played better than the score showed, too.  With last year's d, it would've been 70-3.

It's gonna be a loooong season.

yeah, for sure.  fortunately i had no expectations of us this year.  it looked like watching a high school team trying to figure it all out on the field again.  of course i paid attention to about 10% of today's game.  i don't know if weis just cooks up that offense for the players he has or what, but running demetrius jones every play reminded me of our ol' bob davies offenses.  just give clausen the ball and let him wing it.

the sooner clausen gets started, the better he'll be. might as well get something accomplished this season.

Those Husker boys sure looked good.  I was pumped to see us run the ball so much.  400-some of our 600-some yards were on the ground.  Keller looked good, but not great, but once he got comfortable he was throwing as accurate of passes as I've ever seen at Nebraska.  The D looked mighty, only giving up a field goal.  Even the 3rd and 4th stringers wouldn't budge.  A solid start to the season.  I'm looking forward to seeing them perform on the road next week.  Lord knows they have some tests on the road this year.

i've got plenty of stress to keep me busy already.

my head hurts.

concerning the wolverines loss, i was talking to brandon about this today, and we both agreed that this is why big highly ranked teams should never pad their non-conference games out with teams from division 1-aa, or other supposedly 'weak' teams. because see, if you win, no one is impressed, since everyone expected you to anyway. and if by some strange twist of fate you lose, people freak out and never let you hear the end of it. and chances are michigan will drop a good bit more in the rankings than they would have if they'd lost to anyone else. because everyone's gonna be saying "fuck, if APP STATE can beat them at HOME, they must SUCK this year!" even if they're actually great and it was a fluke, they're going to have to work hard to dig themselves out of this hole. they blew it in a big way with this one.

the most beautiful thing about that game, to me, is one that not many people are talking about.

app state fucking BEAT THEM.

the upset wasn't about michigan "beating themselves" or "looking past their opponent". it was about a team of underdogs playing their fucking asses off against one of the most decorated institutions in college football. and they played their asses off for the full 60 minutes...an achievement worthy of praise for any team. app state deserved that win, 100%. i'm not saying that michigan didn't make mistakes, but that's part of the game, and more often than not, it's the other team making you make those mistakes. people need to give app state mad props for what they did, instead of just shitting on michigan.

i have a feeling it will be a repeat of brady quinn's freshman season, but hopefully with less sacks.  speaking of brady quinn, he's already getting mocked by the onion.  i can only hope this means the start of big things for him
