she's smart enough to do the math and realize we'd get killed if we try to have a military conflict with them.

I've been pretty out of the loop regarding Washington stuff because I've just been pretending this administration doesn't actually exist. But Condoleezza Rice is the one who's advocating a diplomatic solution with Iran? Scary.

fucking hilarious. you're thinking you're going to sell your OJ memorabilia to some other rich white guy, and then OJ himself with some jack boys pulls out a gun and says he's taking it back.
if i were an OJ collector, i'd be totally ok with that.

no, it'll be great, people will talk about "the OJ trial" and a paradox will occur and a void will open up and swallow us all.
i hope he gets into another car chase. and fuckin goes a little faster this time.

I think part of the deal OJ struck for selling the memoribilia was to stage an armed robbery, in order to drive up interest, raising their value.

OK, from what I've read, it sounds as if there's a better than 50-50 chance that the US is going to bomb Iran. The first objection I hear from people when I say this is, you're crazy, that'd be insane, but what they do not account for is that we are talking about an insane administraion. Furthermore, Israel and the Israeli lobby want to bomb Iran, and what they want, they usually get. Thoughts? Predictions on how high gas prices would go? (The silver lining in all this is that "dictator" Hugo Chavez would be absolutely rolling in the dough if such a thing were to happen.)

bro, they can't actually afford to do it. they've been blustering about it for years now, and it would have happened by now if they could see their way clear to making it happen. but they can't. don't sweat it.

While we've been muddling around in Iraq, Iran has not only been building up its mgith but also gathering important intelligence on the US Military. Nobody with even half a brain would want to open up the can of worms that would be attacking Iran, even if it is just "bombing them".
If anything, Bush the lame duck might be stupid enough to go for it, but there's no way he gets funding/authorization for a war in Iran from this congress. And any newly elected president, even if it is a Republican, is not going to commit political suicide by attacking Iran.
But maybe I'm just an optimist.

You really think Bush would ask for authorization, C of H? In that one stupid-ass bill they gave him premission to do pretty much whatever he wants to carry out the "War on Terror." Remember that article someone linked to about that conservatives' cruise? I think it was a Mother Jones article. Virtually everyone on that cruise was certain Bush will bomb Iran at some point. And now, everything I read by lefty journalists suggests that it's probably going to happen in the next 6 months.
Also, I'm not certain it would be political suicide. You can never underestimate the ability of the American people to rally behind any military adventure, no matter how stupid or atrocious it is. I mean, has there ever been a US attack that the majority if US citizens did not initially support? Furthermore, if they do bomb Iran, the Iranian leaders are likely to rally their citizens' support by saying a bunch of inflammatory things about the US, which will just rankle all those American patriots so much they'll probably advocate a nuclear attack.

you are right about one thing, rl--the president doesn't generally ask congress for a declaration of war anymore. last time i think they went that route was ww II, if i remember correctly.
but i seriously think you're overestimating this whole thing. the word has been that bush and his people were begging for an excuse to do this since before the 2004 election and it still hasn't happened.

yeah, bush has lost most of his crazy cronies by this point, and i really don't see him starting a war effort with one year left in office just so whoever takes over can sort out the mess. i think iran is more useful to the US as an opponent in the war of rhetoric. we = freedoms yay! that small guy with the funny last name = bad. i see it more like a cold war campaign. i really doubt we're ever going to plunge into a full war effort, but it never hurts to have an international bogey man you can blame the rest of the worlds ills on - and assign responsibility for our own failings in the middle east.

There's always the possibility that they'll stage another false flag operation and then blame it on Iran to use as a pretext for bombing them. Cheney is hardly a stranger to such things. Hopefully not, though, cause if that were to happen, Bush-Cheney could invoke NSPD-51 and turn the country into a military state and do basically anything they want (not that they don't or haven't already, but that's what it says).
