This evening my sister and I laughed so much at a silly dance she invented and the reasons why it would bring all the boys to the yard, and it got to that point of laughing that happens rarely in my life now, where you just cant stop, and the tears are running down your cheeks and your stomach hurts and you cant breathe but you still cant stop. It was , well, just amazing really.

I have been stressing over my ability to pull together a decent application for a Canadian skilled worker visa, especially as there's a chance they won't accept my current job as valid. The job title is classified as unskilled, but the actual job description falls under skilled so... it's likely, but it's not a dead cert.

This shouldn't be a problem as I have enough skilled experience from secretarial temping to obtain the visa, but it's all over the place and I don't have adequate records.

Anyway... today I realised that, thanks to the Data Protection Act, I can write to every single temp agency and company I've worked for in the past 10 years and, so long as they still have the information, they're legally obliged to release it and can't charge more than 10 squid for doing so or take more than 40 days. Same deal with 10 years' worth of bank statements to back it up. Very relieved right now. I think I can actually get this application off before the end of the year.

To both of you:  That's great!  Yay for happiness!  Yay for getting things done and bonding and pushing yourself toward what you want!

I thought I might either get fired or be forced to quit today (because I refuse to put up with a scolding for being ill).  Thus far I haven't received any shit from anybody...this is a pleasant surprise!

You're still thinking you might to my little town, then? I'm glad I didn't scare you away.

heh.  in re: to thread title, i was thinking of using the lyric "you know i'm always moanin'/ but you jumpstart my serotonin" from an Arab Strap song as the title for a depression or sadness thread.  you beat me to it.  onto the next round of neurotransmitters mentioned in indie rock songs . . . i'm not sure there are any.  although i think i remember hearing 'the serotonin runnin' down my spine' in some liars song a long time ago, but i could be mistaken.

Heh... no, you didn't scare me away! I'm actually thinking about moving to Montreal because... well... arriving in Montreal for the first time just felt like coming home. But, if I understand the deal with visas, I'll probably have to spend a few months in Toronto first. So if you're still living there if/when I arrive (in, like, 2012), I sincerely hope you're up for another round of booze and oysters. Delicious Canadian booze...

Good choice. Montreal's a fun town, and the closest this continent gets to being Europe. Brutally brutally cold in the winter. But yes, it's a great place to be.

I have that on order, and am currently rewatching seasons one and two in run-up to season three (about which I want to continue to know nothing). It's holding up quite nicely the second time around.

I'm on fire today, actually accomplishing things! This "no movies" policy seems to work! Though I'm still going out to a double feature tonight.

You know what's the best thing about this thread? When it's up on the front page, it says "Serotonin rose drama".

Oh yeah.

I did that dance tonight wearing leopardskin tights and red satin elbow-gloves.

Can't say it brought the boys, but it made me feel ALIVE.

I'm running daily weather comparisons between Bologna and Montreal and, so far, Montreal's got the more pleasant weather! We'll see how things get in a couple of months...

Guess what guys. I had an Oxjam. (Fundraiser gig for Oxfam, not some weird infection or what have you.) It was way small, but people had fun, and I got to the good stage where you don't care that people are standing around looking bored cos YOU have red gloves and can dance like crazy. Apart from fighting with my friend, which SUCKED majorly, it was RADDD. High school bands seemed to have improved in quality quite a lotttt, like to the point of actual goodness. And I want to be a drummer.

I just got called into one of the small meeting rooms here for a chat with one of the Senior bosses, and I was quite fearful of the chat because... well, for reasons too convoluted to go into here.

Anyway, I got a promotion.

This is making me happy, but there's a little part of me that feels like a fraud.  Is feeling like a fraud and waiting to be found out part of daily working life?*

*The Peter Principle, maybe?

Did you feel like you were incapable of your previous job?  Do you feel like you are going to be incapable of your new job?  If so, then the Peter Principle may be in effect!

Hey Doctor Bob what do you think about your cabinet giving themselves raises?

I got an e-mail late last night / early this morning from my oldest friend Jon, who lives in San Diego pretty close to some of the areas that were affected by the fire.  He and his family were evacuated several days ago but are back in their home now.  They're OK.  I guess "very relieved" is analogous to happy.

Dave-

The cabinet business is pretty shameful.  Our Taoiseach is now one of the best paid premiers in the world, but oddly he didn't have a bank account until pretty recently (as transpired during a Tribunal into planning irregularities not long ago).  If there's any good to come out of it, I suspect the tide might turn against them shortly because of it, when taken with the real possibility that the Celtic Tiger (ugh) seems to be preparing for a cat nap.

Re Peter- it's a long story, but in essence I feel perfectly capable but underqualified.  It's just a letters-after-my-name thing.  (I was being mildly facetious.)

Congratulations on the promotion, Robert!

I just sent off the final version of my master's thesis (except for a last proofreading round on Monday) to my supervisor, so I'm another step closer to adding some letters before my name (yes, that's how titles work around here). Nice.

edit: I'll stop talking about my thesis again now, promise.
