pchhh. this is old news. bought it (in the nicer looking british format) read it loved it. don't mean to rub it in, but it was amazing, easily as good as the wind up bird chronicles or hard boiled wonderland, in fact maybe the best one i've read. ahhh, it sure feels good to have read this book

i love the british versions.  i own that edition of norwegian wood and wind up bird chronicle and think they generally look quite a bit nicer than the american ones.  i think it's the font that grabs me.  i like the american edition of hard boiled wonderland more, though.  in a totally unrelated note, the american versions of the harry potter books rule all over their british counterparts.

...alas! i nearly forgot it was coming up.

on the topic: i'm looking for used UK Vintage pressings of Norwegian Wood (ISBN: 0099448823), Sputnik Sweetheart (ISBN: 0099448475) and Elephant Vanishes (ISBN: 0099448750). basically: the ones with smexy b&w covers. i'd be interested in a trade, if you've read them and need the shelf space; i have some of his US pressings, and other works by other japanese authors i'd be willing to exchange for them.

also: i work in a library and have access to mad amounts of books that are to be recycled and/or discarded for various reasons (more like excuses if you ask me); but which are in perfect to fair to questionable condition, depending. right now there's an influx of art & out-dated travel books; some music, history, music history, americana ect. lots of random obscure type stuff which would be of interest to collage makers, fact-sluts, trivia buffs, collectors, eccentrics like us, ect. so if you have any particular interests let me know and i'll keep an eye out for you.

i wouldn't dare ask anything in the way of exchange other than shipping. a friendly gesture of sorts would be nice. maybe a mix cd or mailable art work/randomness. or maybe just a picture of what you used it for, that would please me to no end. totally up to you, as you see fit. but yeah, let me know if you're interested in a swap.

oooh, a hook-up! I'm always on the lookout for history books, especially general world histories, and cold war/soviet studies. Art books are fun too, even damaged ones, which can be cut up for fun projects. E-mail me, rob0t, and let's do some sorta exchange. I'm a good random assortment gifts sender.

check out the Murakami appreciation thread which includes a fairly detailed discussion about where to start if you've never read anything by him.

I bought After The Quake today,  I figured I'd read some short stories first, and build up for bigger novels.  I never like getting people's best works first whether it be music or books.

his short stories are some of his best stuff, unfortunately i didnt like After The Quake much at all. the one story... something about a Bear i forget the title, was pretty great but the rest was just kinda bleh. check The Elephant Vanishes for some top notch short storyage.

yknow, imho.

I'm not hot for em, actually.   Parts of the stories I grin at, but overall...eh.  I liked the one guys Nightmare where he was afraid of refridgerators.
