i nearly bought kafka, but the local bookshop only had it in hardcover, so i declined for the time being. i did nab a few pages of it, but wasn't very absorbed or sucked in. you can usually tell if he's "on" or not by his first few pages. i wonder though... perhaps it was my pissy mood that particular night. it's like when you cook in a bad mood, and the food tastes off. y'know?

also: if you like murakami you should get the compilation of contemporary off-beat japanese fiction called "Monkey Brain Sushi." he's in it, and there's some other beat-ass stuff in it too. i highly recommend it.

any Kobo Abe fans?
