I went on an impromptu hike with friends yesterday.  I am paying for wearing shoes that were not made for hiking.

But this neat picture came out of it, taken by my friend Carissa:

My mum knitted both of those (she used to help me with my eye-liner too). Stupid jumpers down below my knees were kind of my trademark. I always told her to keep going until she'd run out of wool.

The snow last night stuck to everything!  I was walking around my back yard admiring how all the trees now bend to the ground and look demented.

This made me want to go on a rant about how shitty Thomas Built Buses are, and then I realized probably no one would care.

I'd personally like to hear it.  Most of our school busses around here are Thomases.

I'm eagerly awaiting this rant, too.  My thoughts on Thomas Buses:

The slider tabs on the bus windows were a bitch when they got stuck.

Sitting in the seat above the wheel well and having to keep your legs in the fetal position was, while premptively useful in the event of a crash, a shitty a way to spend a 45 minute bus ride

Watching kindergarteners stick their hands into the ripped fake leather seat covers and shove pieces of the padding into their mouth while wondering how many types of cancer they'd get by age 30 = not cool

They should stick to building bagels.

OK.

Thomas buses are more or less built with slave labor. Not like, actual slaves, but I would imagine the people building them don't get paid any more than $8/hour. And they don't use machines. The buses are 100% built by hand. All the body panels are bent and riveted by hand. My old boss told me about how he visited the Thomas plant, and he saw the poor young men hammering and sweating in 100 degree weather, looking like they wanted to die.

And unfortunately, whatever preconceptions you may have about the superiority of hand-built products are wrong when it comes to Thomas Built Buses, because they are the worst pieces of shit ever to grace our highways. Like, I'd wonder in horror how anyone thinks it's a good idea to load these buses up with our precious children, except really the buses are not in working order often enough for them to actually be dangerous. When you drive a Thomas you can feel the thing falling apart beneath you. When you pull the parking brake it feels like the dashboard is going to break off. Lights randomly stop working. God forbid you have to do any work on the engine. When there is an electrical problem the standard procedure is to start jiggling wires until it starts working, because the diagrams that come with the bus look like they were drawn by M. C. Escher.

To be fair the Thomases I worked on were transit buses, but from what I've been told the transit buses are just school buses that aren't yellow.

What I've done this year:
Hung out at my dad's house, in the garden

made crepes

gone on long ass drives

Colin likes water

There were seals

Seal puppage

There was a hanging garden that no one could get to

not pictured: naked swimming in deep strong surf and getting caught by a drunk fat man who leered and licked his lips and WOULD NOT LEAVE, which was awkward cos we only had one towel to hide behind
