The German card game Rage is basically Oh, Hell with a six suit deck. We played it all the time when I was a kid.

With some minor variants to the linked rules above, our standard family card game Boufou is basically another version of Oh, Hell.

I learned a game a few years ago that was really fun but I haven't played it in a while and I can't remember how it goes. It's called Shapu, I think. The girl who taught it to me is from Milwaukee, so. Maybe it's regional? Everyone else I ask about it looks at me like I'm crazy. Am I?

Deal three cards face down to each player, then six additional cards. Three of thise go on top of thee three face down cards, twos are wild and tens clear the pile. You have to lay a card down higher than the one thats played

it's where you have one pile and four cards constantly in your hand and you have three cards face down with three others on top and you play until the deck runs out and then you use your face down cards. 10's are "bombs" 2's are wild and aces are high. ever heard of it?
these are two explanations I found from the internet that sound pretty similar but they don't give me a great idea of the actual game play. sound familiar?

ok, so tell me more details of the game. I tried to play it with a friend at lunch and we both got frustrated because there were so many holes. I had forgotten that 10's clear the pile. What do you do if someone gets an ace? keep playing til someone gets a 10 or 2? I heard you always had to have 3 cards in hand the whole time. Do you discard when you play a card? what happens when you lose a card, does it go into the discard pile?

thanks for googling, I am lazy. But I did write that whole paragraph instead of typing in "shit head card game" so I don't know what I am. lptj-dependent.

I just drew 1-1 with Grace at 'Winnie The Pooh Pelmanism' (damn those subtly-different eeyore pictures!), but was then soundly thrashed over 3 rounds of 'Rat-A-Tat Cat' by Ellie.

I think I was slightly harsh on euchre. It's not as deep as most of the Jass games. But it's a fun basis for drunken yelling, and that's my only real criterion.
Bid euchre
(sometimes called double euchre) is much more fun. That's all we ever play in our household anymore.

What is this 'Rat-A-Tat Cat' you speak of? I had to look up 'pelmanism' as I'd always known that game by the name of 'concentration.'
The two card games I most remember playing as a kid were UNO and War. It's been so long since I've played UNO that I can't even remember how it's played off the top of my head.

So, this past week has been half-term and Ellie has become a cards enthusiast. It all started with her Nana teaching her Sevens, and since then we've been playing Black Jack (the
British game
, not American Blackjack, which we call Pontoon), Cribbage and even a bit of Clobyosh. But crib has been her favourite.
Looney, sorry I forgot to answer your question - Rat-aTat Cat is explained
here
