When I was very young and I had fevers and sore throats and colds my parents would pour me some special tea to make me healthy.  Years later I still think Irish whiskey tastes like medicine.  But it works anyway, right?  It's an antiseptic and a sedative all in golden harmony.  What's winter without that?

I just made a motherfucking Bourbon & Branch style cucumber gimlet.  Admittedly I cheated: I used simple syrup instead of St. Germain liqueur to sweeten it, but seriously I'm not going to drop $30 on 750 ml of something that I'm only going to use a fractional ounce of in a couple of drinks.  Maybe when I'm rolling in dough, karu? 

ANYHOW the point is I MADE IT and IT WAS DELICIOUS

The actual cocktail at the actual bar was possibly the most sophisticated, delicious drink I've ever encountered, but my awkward version was STILL amazing.

Cucumber “Gimlet”
1 3⁄4 oz. Cucumber-infused vodka (*See recipe)
3⁄4 oz. Lime Juice
1⁄4 oz. Elderflower syrup
1 dash Orange bitters
Float of Champagne
Method: In an ice filled mixing glass, combine ingredients (except Champagne). Shake and strain into cocktail glass (Martini glass). Add float of Champagne.
Garnish: Three cucumber slices.

*Cucumber Vodka
1 Cucumber, peeled, seeded and cut into chunks
Zest of 1 lemon or orange
1 750-ml. bottle unflavored vodka
Instructions: Combine the cucumber, zest and vodka in sterile glass jar; let stand for 48 hours before serving.

We're snowed in today.  We went to the grocery store to get provisions (so did half the county) and we've been at home since noon, cooking, eating, folding laundry and watching tv.

So I got into the bourbon at 1.  It's wearing off now, but I'll wait until tMO's potato & sausage soup (mother FUCK, you guys, it is so damn good) is ready to open a beer.

i'm that person all the time. my friends don't usually get drunk unto oblivion, though, so it's pretty much like hanging out with them at any other time. except when kevin gets drunk and jumps into your conversation, then proceeds to completely monopolize it. that sucks. but that's more an exception than the rule.
