from earache.com

Quote
Hate Eternal guitarist Erik Rutan as been speaking abut the final stages of the recording process of the band's new album, to be called 'I, Monarch', due for release in April 2005.

The band have released one special advance version of the title track for use on an upcoming Earache CD given away free with the January 19 issue of the UK's Metal Hammer magazine, and Rutan is thrilled to be nearing the time when the band can unleash the rest of the record.

Comments the guitarist/vocalist;
"Just wanted to let all the fans know our third Hate Eternal record 'I, Monarch' is being mixed as we speak and shall be finished on January 4th, 2005 for a spring 2005 release. I just want to say that never have I been so prepared for an album and never have I spent so much time crafting an album. Therefore I feel like we really captured something special. It sounds amazing. At my studio I bought the analog 2 inch machine from Morrisound that we recorded the whole album to which was very special. Jim Morris sold it to me. In the past I recorded both 'Domination' and part of the 'Gateways...' album with it, and it's been used on great albums by numerous other bands like Deicide, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse and Death so it is a very classic machine and I am very honored to have it be a part of my studio now."

"The tones on this album are amazing, such depth and clarity yet so pummeling. The material is very diverse I feel without compromising what Hate Eternal represents, which is an extreme Metal outfit. I got some killer solos on here and the drumming on the record is groundbreaking I feel, so I am very psyched to get this thing out and tour our asses off next year. I
think everyone will be very pleased. We look forward to getting back on the road and supporting 'I, Monarch' with a few surprises for sure . Hope all is Well for all our fans out there and be prepared!"

god, i just got into hate eternal but they are AWESOME. this is good news.

hey, does anyone here think that hate eternal could be thought of as a death-metal version of marduk? both bands are fucking raw and fast as hell, and both play very streamlined, no-frills versions of their particular subgenre. am i crazy or does this comparison work?

Only early Marduk I'd say - I thought World Funeral was pretty weak (aside from its obviously awesome title).

really? damn, i liked that album. i actually think their first few albums are their weakest material--once legion switched from drums to vocals they got a lot better. my favorite stuff by them is admittedly their mid-to-late 90s work, though, especially "heaven shall burn" and "panzer division marduk".

but anyway, yeah, hate eternal rule and i look forward to their new record.

Damn..  There will be alot of silly heads at this show.

I can't wait to hear him go "WHER WHER WHER WHERE THE SLIME LIHHHHHV"

-I've written this before but I saw Derek Roddy drum along to tracks from the new album this past July, it was wierd set up, but atleast I know the drumming will be spectacular, as if that wasn't already a given.

I dunno why, but I never really got more than cursorily into Hate Eternal; I guess it's just because there are so many bands who are doing exactly that - hyperspeed, no-frills death metal - that unless you're a Florida/Morbid Angel Death devotee, it's kind a crapshoot. Thus, I really got into Malevolent Creation's newest, Warkult, but can't imagine that Hate Eternal offer something so distinct from that that I'd want to listen to that too.

As for the new SYL and Dark Tranquility, I've written about these both in other places, so I'll keep it short, but: the new Dark Tranquility is amazing. It's so well-done and skillfully written that even though it's still melodic death metal, all the cliches about the Gothenberg Sound simply don't apply. These guys wrote the book on that shit, and it shows. As for the new SYL, it has been leaked, and I have it, and I am just kind of hoping that the leaked copy I have is a rough mix, because it's rather different from anything I've heard DT do before, in terms of production. It actually seems a lot more stripped-down and more indistinct that anything he's done aside from Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing. Either way, I'm reserving judgement, because the man's a genius, and as of right now I simply don't know what I think of the album.

It's worth remembering that all leaked copies are, at best, hi-res mp3's, which is to say: they sound shitty.

Jed has said that the 'Shitstorm' mp3 is a real rough mix.

"even though it's still melodic death metal, all the cliches about the Gothenberg Sound simply don't apply"

That's good to hear, as the Lost to Apathy single was really dissapointing.  I just ordered a autographed version of Character from the band's website.  Still not sure how much it cost me.

Well, uh, I don't remember disliking Lost to Apathy, so I hope I'm not misleading. Anyway, if you like Dark Tranquility, I can't imagine you disliking this album. The production is big and crisp and they demonstrate a ton of energy and passion. 'Nuff said.

I'm excited for the new Dark Tranquillity, as well as the new Soilwork - which is my guilty pleasure that I can't help but like, even though their metal is pretty lightweight.

As long as I am at it, I might as well mention that I also very much looking forward to the new Arcturus album, especially now that they are on Season of Mist and they got Simen Hestenaes (Borknagar, Lamented Souls, clean vocals for Dimmu Borgir) as a new permanent member.

I am also dying to hear the new Ulver album, but I guess I will have to wait until summer for that as they pushed the release date back again.

I know, that is such a great song. Simen is one of the best - if not the absolutely best - clean vocalists in metal. I wouldn't be able to choose him over Mike Akerfeldt from Opeth with a clean conscience though.

Garm is still the best fit for Arcturus.  And he is an effin bad ass singer too.  If you haven't heard Ulver's A Quick Fix of Meloncholy EP (which is total bliss) try at some point and listen to the song Vowels.    Almost opera worthy.  Ihsahn has always been my dream fill in canidate.  Radical Cut is such a boss song.  But Simen was most definately my second pick and I am very glad he's on.  I hope he becomes more versitile then from his Dimmu and Borknagar stuff.

I doubt it's coming any time soon.  They're mostly doing random shows.  But they keep saying they are going to start working on a an album.  The Sham Mirrors took forever to record though.  It was assembled bit by bit in each others home studio. when they had spare time.
