I got these vinyl records today.

Insect Warfare - World Extermination

Dissection - Reinkaos

Book of Black Earth - The Feast

Sly and the Family Stone - There's A Riot Goin' On

Hot Water Music - No Division

I bought that last one on whim.  Looking it up, I feel like i picked a less desirable one.  Oh well.

i know this is entirely predictable and not in the spirit of the thing, but could you please in future spell "compact disc" with a C at the end? it's my fault for being a pedant that it annoys me, but that doesn't change the fact that i'd appreciate it and it wouldn't hurt anyone. thanks.

Perhaps he buys MP3s and carries them around on small portable hard drives?

xasthur- a gate through bloodstained mirrors. i'm glad i pay a whole bunch of money for this before it got reissued, not his best work.

Cool cover, though!

I almost bought "Defective Epitaph" the other day, but I got to thinking... I've got "Subliminal Genocide" and "Telepathic With the Deceased," and they're good... but I'm not sure how much more Xasthur I need. Both of those albums sound pretty similar.

Is his other stuff more diverse? I read somewhere that "Defective Epitaph" is supposed to be more "stripped down," or something, which sounds intriguing, as everything I've heard from Maelfic has been nigh impenetrably dense.

xasthur is pretty much a one trick pony. most of his releases are the same super dense wall-of-sound buzzing black metal (not that there is anything wrong with that). i haven't picked up "defective epitaph" or "subliminal genocide" because i feel i have enough xasthur. really the only reason i bought "a gate..." was to round out my early xasthur collection. however, i think his best work is the leviathan split, both his and leviathan's sides are fantastic. i would pick that one up for sure. other than that, i like "nocturnal poisoning" best of his earlier, lower production values, wall-of-buzz days and "to violate the oblivious" of the better sounding (recording wise) less dense newer jams. all three of those are better than "telepathic" in my opinion.

i would say either "forever and counting" or "fuel for the hate game". perhaps the singles collection "never ender", also.

Caution's my favorite HWM album, then Fuel for the Hate Game.

After Caution's where I draw the line. Ugh.

Anyone else get this? I bought it Tuesday, and while I've only listened to it once each day, it's ranking on the low end of the Mould spectrum for me so far--roughly on par with The Last Dog & Pony Show, which is to say, perfectly respectable and even moving at times, but without an "Explode and Make Up" or "Too Far Down" or etc.

Not that it matters--I'm a Mould lifer, I guess, so I'll keep buying his albums regardless of merit in some perpetual reenactment of adolescent ritual.

It's streaming on line, so I listened to it a couple of times. It's pleasant enough. Nothing really jumped out as particularly good or particularly bad, but I don't feel any need to own a copy.
