I was doing so well, and all of a sudden I'm totally blowing it and spending way too much on records. In the last few days I've mailordered the following (some of which I've received, some of which is still on its way):

Guyver One - Self-titled 7 inch ($11 ppd, received today)
Rye Coalition - New Sheriff In Town 7 inch ($12 ppd, received a few days ago)
Copper - Drag Queen cassette ($7 ppd, currently in the mail)

Today I went to Plan 9 and spent a total of $26.50 (after a 10% discount for working in the same shopping district knocked it down from almost $30) on the following:

The Amps - Tipp City + 2 12 inch single ($3)
[Note: I'm amazed at how good this is, considering how shit-on the Amps LP was at the time of release. I'm way into this record.]
The Darling Buds - Pop Said... LP ($3)
The Faces - Long Player LP ($3)
The James Gang - Rides Again LP ($3)
Chickasaw Mudd Puppies - White Dirt CD ($3)
[Note: FINALLY! Been looking for this for over a decade. Finding it for a measly three bucks is just icing on the cake.]
Hgual - Riding On Three Wheels CD ($3)
[Note: old Richmond band whose principal significance is that members went on to be in Hose.Got.Cable. Before my time, and I've never heard it, but I was curious and it was cheap.]
Head Wound City - Self titled 10 inch ($5)
[Note: all I knew when I bought this was that it was some fast, spastic thrash on ThreeOneG, with a singer named "JP" who was pretty obviously Justin Pearson of the Locust/Swing Kids. Got home, googled, discovered that of the other four members, "Nick" is Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Jordan" and "Cody" are two members of the Blood Brothers, and "Gabe" is Gabe Serbian of The Locust and Cattle Decapitation. So I inadvertently picked up a record by a hipster-grind supergroup. On yellow vinyl, no less.]

And I'm currently negotiating to buy three 7 inches from a guy on vivalavinyl.org for $30 or so, those being:

Drowningman - How They Light Cigarettes In Prison ($4 or so)
Indian Summer/Current - split ($20 or so)
Policy of 3 - American Woodworking ($6 or so)

Now, no one of these transactions is fatal on its own, but the fact that I've engaged in all of them this week makes me a bit of an idiot, fiscally, especially considering that I need to refill a prescription and mail the records I sold online (to a guy from Switzerland) tomorrow. I'm gonna go from flush to broke in like 3 days. But hey, I got some good records out of it!

Yeesh. I need to learn some restraint.

Seriously, dude. When your health suffers because of your record buying habits, I think it's time to seriously reconsider priorities. Not trying to be harsh here, just sayin' I think maybe it's time to take a step back and see if what you're doing is really in your best interests. I've been thinking about this lately with regards to the amount of time I spend on the computer listening to music. It's altogether too much, and though I have an impulse to keep doing as I currently do, I'm gonna force myself to stop. With full-time work and class and my abnormal sleep requirements, I have little free time these days, and I need to spend more time reading and doing other things 'cause I'm turning into a music-listening zombie, and there's a point of diminishing returns where you need to just consciously make a stand and draw the line.

now wait a second, my health won't suffer. i can still afford the prescription. it's just that i'm being a bit profligate, and, all things considered, it's probably better to try and save the money. it's like, i can afford to spend all this money on records, but there's no need for it. i need to chill, be more selective.

also, it's kinda ok anyway, because the kid changed his mind about selling me the indian summer/current split, and now i'm buying the other two from him for a much more affordable $15 ppd.

Bob Dylan - Love and Theft
Thom Yorke - The Eraser
John Fogerty - Centerfield
Big Black - Pigpile
Melechesh - Emissaries

From just one listen I can tell that I'm going to enjoy Love and Theft quite a bit.

Love & Theft is an endless joy to listen to.

I got this in the mail last week, I think:

A Weather Cove

I think it might be my favorite album of 2008 so far. Or close, anyway.

And favorite cover art, that much is obvious.

Just got my Royal Army Recording Company discs in the mail today, including Contortionist Blues Vol. 1 and the Mary, Your Ghost Is Showing EP. Nice packaging.

torche -  in return, bought on the strength of the packaging alone, and it's not too bad. the disc itself is a little nuts, it's either red or green depending on how you look at it. bottom left if you click the link that isn't mine.

scratch n' sniff, i realized actually about 2 minutes ago. and really oddly colored vinyl.

sounds like: heavy, driving, melodic, they've definitely listened to some isis judging by some of these loud/soft passages and the synth pads that pop up in back here & there, but this shit is heavier than that. also, for some reason, the drumming consistently reminds me of the austerity program, despite it being a real drummer, and the riffage makes me think about bolt thrower at times. i'm not understanding how these influences meld, but they make it work.

i couldn't tell you which sub-sub-genre of metal this is, because i don't fucking care about that, but i can tell you it's crunchy tunes, and 20 minutes long.

smells like: bubble gum, and damn strong.

iit really looks liike: 2 records

3, sorry.

isis and torche have toured together a couple times, so reese is definitely onto something there. torche have also toured with mogwai at least once. the thing i think is interesting about them is that there's an undeniable melodic sensibility that creeps into their stuff, without making it any less stoner/metal. oh, and by the way, most of the band was previously in the band floor, who are much more straight up stoner/doom stuff.

My most recent purchases:
Boris- Statement 7"
Slint- Spiderland LP
Elliott Smith- Figure 8 reissue
MBV- Loveless Red Vinyl reissue
Bunch of Arcade Fire Singles
Defiance, Ohio- The Fear The Fear The Fear LP
This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb- Three Way Tie For a Fifth

Those last two sound like ass for some reason.

Also, the local used record store has a sweet copy of Weasels Ripped My Flesh for 15 bones, but I need to wait until payday.
