(on the other hand, it's pretty fun to fiddle online while they all write essays about similarities and differences between the Nisei and Mexican-American experiences in California.)

(of course, soon I'll have to be reading the damn things)

So I'm in the middle of giving a midterm, and I just realized only about 2/3 of my students are here. What the fuck? This is worth something like 30% of their grade, what's going on?

also annoyance: now I'm going to have to deal with a barrage of explanations, excuses, etc. I'm a pretty forgiving guy and will probably allow retakes for anyone who comes up with a halfway decent one, but it's all extra headacahe for me. Gah.

oh man, I have done that so many times as a student and have been blessed with easy going professors like yourself.  Not during exams or anything, but for papers and such and I always want to send them cookies or a plant or something at the end of the semester.  I should send you one just to make up for all of your slacker students.

I will also send you cookies, auto, in honor of the kindly professors who let me start my Religion 101 final just as everyone else was finishing.  I think they felt bad for me when I burst into the room, panting and sweating, saying, "Clock... was set for PM...  I meant to set it for AM...  Alarm."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that if you made it through school without sleeping through at least one final, you're doing it wrong.

happened to me once too. i was nearly two hours late to my 3-hour political science final. thankfully, my professor let me finish, even though i took about 45 minutes more than was originally allotted. funnily enough, another kid, who'd been there since the final started, took even longer than i did.

Just for being you. When discussing members of this board with Grace you always some to come out of the conversation extremely well. Well, most people do, but you garner a particularly enthusiastic response from both sides.

I can't tell whether you're talking about me or auto, but I'm gonna go ahead and pretend it's a Voltron-like combination of both of us.

you're going to have to start shaving off your skin flakes, shake to blend, store them in a bottle, and distribute it as "ESSENCE OF LEGION" to appease the citizens of earth.

so, based on the text, you're uncertain as to whether or not your dad is a high school girl?

haha, he overnighted me mine, since my birthday was earlier.  I think the "prepared 4 disturbing" bit is because he included pix from the Austin trip.  There's a pic of your gf smoking a cigar, and that one pic of me gazing dreamily at the step-brother; I think those are what they meant.

I'm applying to volunteer for a few months at this urban farm co-op: www.growingpower.org which is based in Milwaukee but also has a farm in Chicago.  I want to start a co-op like this in Orlando Florida in the near future so I think it'd be a good learning experience because I'm incredibly naive.

I google mapped the address of both places and it looks like the actual farm in Milwaukee is in a suburb by an army base but the farm in Chicago is right in an urban center which would be better because I won't have a car if I do this.  Anyhow I am uncertain about which place to apply for, since they want you to specify where you want to work.

Some of you people live in Chicago and Milwaukee, so what's up!  Also I don't know if this place is shady or anything like greencorps kinda was.  It looks pretty legit to me but I don't know!  thanks!

The one in Milwaukee is actually really close to my parents' house.  Well, not really close, but close enough.  It is, in fact, right next to an army base (my dad used to have to go there before he retired from the army, and I've been on the base enough times myself to know exactly where it is).  As Jeb said, it's on the north side -- pretty far north, though not quite in the suburbs.  I wouldn't exactly describe that neighbourhood as 'ghetto' (there are a lot of neighbourhoods in Milwaukee that are worse, and it's Milwaukee we're talking about, after all), but it's not the best in the world.  Could be better, could be worse.  It's mostly residential.  You'd be able to get around just fine on the buses (Silver Spring is a major street, so there'd be a bus stop right outside of your door, pretty much), but they do tend to be a bit slow.

I'd say go to Milwaukee, but that's mostly 'cause I love Milwaukee.  And Jeb is awesome.

Edit: Not to say that the Chicago crew isn't awesome.  I'm sure they are.

I'm really, really great!  Moving out to Madison on April 1st, couldn't be happier right now.  Life is good.

How are you?  Hangouts before April?  Call me?

Nope, no more.  Home for good, minus future travels.  I haven't been online much -- my parents have dial-up, and, well, I just haven't felt much like going online, I guess.

Korea was great.  I'm glad I did it, but I'm glad to be home.

How's life, buddy?

Not too bad! Except I have that cold I get every time the seasons change. Only one more quarter of undergraduate drudgery, and then it looks like we're off to NYC.

NYC!  Fantastic!  Rock on, congratulations.  Smile

Sorry about the cold, though.  I've somehow managed to (mostly) stay away from being sick this year.  Don't know how.  I think it's 'cause I take a multivitamin every day and drink LOTS of water.

Well.  That's not quite as exciting, then, but at least you'll get to hang out with lots of awesome LPtJers.
