Well there's a good chance if you got an Ivy League education you're already quite economically advantaged.
And yeah the public school inferiority complex is stupid, but it's also undeniable that regardless of your abilities, you're at a huge disadvantage when it comes to competing for positions with people from the Ivies or any of the extremely wealthy non-Ivy private universities.
*Also just wanted to assure any of our friends at/from the Ivies that I'm not trynna provoke you or anything, just sayin

There was more to that quote, then I got distracted and bored and wandered off, then came back and posted it forgetting that I trailed off.
The gist was that somewhere, Matt Yglesias noted that there's nothing inherently more valuable in 'spending four years smoking pot and pretending to understand Foucault' than there is to going straight to work. I was more interested in the funniness of that quote than blah blah Ivy Leage blah blah.

Man that is some rough stuff.
I just happened to have some left over that Heather ought for some nefarious cooking purpose, and I eat them because I am the dude who is fine with eating graham crackers peanut butter sandwiches and ramen noodles all the time because even though I'm doing great financially my psychological issues with money are so deep-seated I will probably feel uncomfortable eating anything more than peanut butter sandwiches for the rest of my life.

Whats a graham cracker? Is it a digestive biscuit as I've been led to believe, or is it actually more like a cracker?

xpost with GCR good god what is wrong with New Zealand
Graham crackers are these delicious soft cracker type things that taste like honey and goodness. Sort of a biscuit, sort of a cookie, sort of a cracker. And awesome with milk.

Seriously pollo, Heather bought some tuna once while we were grocery shopping and my instant reaction was WHAT THE HELL WOMAN AINT YOU KNOW THAT STUFF IS HELL OF EXPENSIVE, and then I realized that tuna is in fact not expensive, and the idea that it was was just something I had from when I was a kid that I guess I never bothered to examine in the face of actual evidence.

Hmmm, I was told they are a digestive biscuit but clearly that is not the case because digestive biscuits are not as good as the thing you speak of. You always felt a bit cheated when you got one as a kid: "sure, its a cookie...but
boring

from wiki
The graham cracker was developed in 1822 in Bound Brook, New Jersey, by Presbyterian minister Rev. Sylvester Graham. Though called a cracker, it is sweet rather than salty and so bears some resemblance to what Americans call a cookie and the British call a biscuit.
In particular it resembles a digestive biscuit.
The true graham cracker is made with graham flour, which is unsifted and coarsely ground wheat flour.
It was originally conceived of as a health food as part of the Graham Diet, a regimen to suppress what he considered unhealthy carnal urges, the source of many maladies according to Graham.
[edit] Modern Use
Many modern "graham crackers" are made of the refined, bleached white flour to which the Rev. Graham was implacably opposed. Some modern commercial graham crackers are no longer considered health food, but have remained popular as a snack food and breakfast cereal with greater amounts of sugar, honey and other sweeteners than in the original recipe, and far less graham flour, often with no whole-wheat flour whatsoever. Cinnamon or chocolate may be added to enhance the flavor of the crackers. Technically, crackers are not really graham crackers unless they are made with graham flour, which is a coarsely-ground hard whole-wheat flour.

I've always wondered why grains were seen as anti-masturbation food for so long. Kellogg invented corn flakes for the exact same reason.

Once again, I am delighted as fuck to see andronicus repeating stories I've heard before. You're gonna be so entertaining when you get to the old folks' home.
My roommate got some graham crackers from his workplace a little while ago, so I bought a bag of marshmallows from a nearby convenience store to make s'mores with. The two dudes at the counter were some kind of middle-eastern or some such, and they had never seen or sold marshmallows before. So I spent about five minutes talking with them about marshmallows, how you can eat 'em, how you can cook desserts with them. One of the guys poked the bag with his finger, and seemed amused by texture.
MELTING POT, YEAH

there's so much you don't know about american cuisine isn't there grace? sloppy joes, graham crackers. oh our splendid stockpile of mass produced junk food could go on forever.
yeah, the cracker is a misnomer. file under cookie. dunking a whole package of graham crackers in milk late at night was part of my pharmaceutical cocktail for awhile, until i realized i can't really drink milk anymore. they're not really that great on their own, but dip them in milk and they become so so tasty and addictive.

Uncertain: sorry to continue with the living situation bitching, but I just snapped rudely at one of my flatmates- not the one who was chillin in my room without asking, but the super negative neurotic one. I almost made him cry I think. I was all "I'm so happy! got my debts out of the way! Only got to pay back $40 next week and then I can relax a bit!" and he's all "Another debt will have come up by then though." and I just exploded, "I CANNOT TAKE YOUR CONSTANT NEGATIVITY... ANNOYING... TRYING TO GET BETTER IN MY LIFE AND I"M LIVING WITH A MASSIVE HUMAN DEPRESSANT! GRRR"
Well I wasnt that nasty, but he was all ahh I cant help it I cant help it and what is wrong with you at the moment anyway
So I feel like a total bitch ogre
But secretly I'm glad I said something
And feel bad for feeling that too
