I love fireworks. You can see the ones at Lake Compounce perfectly from my mom's. Also, I got to play with the Nintendo wii again, and I had excellent tilapia and a margarita at Agave.

i was driving around downtown and there were some fireworks from afar for like, maybe 20 seconds. not really impressive, but still impressive in a cute way.

it's because we all figured out sometime in the last decade that iceland is an amazing magical country.

Holy shit last night was awesome. First cookout at our friend Steph's, mad good food made by her bf, including seitan steaks and lots of corn on the cob! We also invented a Taco Bongo signature desert, Oreo and Pickle. Drank some Nighttrain and smoked some weed and then went to a punk rock show that was taking place in the basements of two adjacent houses that shared a backyard. When we got there, all the punks were in the alley lighting off fireworks. Big, scary, illegal fireworks. Like mortars and shit. It was fucking awesome. Way better than Milwaukee's stupid (though incredibly amazing by all accounts other than mine) display. Some of the neighborhood people got into it too, and this one oldish black dude accidentally shot one of the punks in the face with a bottle rocket. Luckily he didn't really get hurt. Anyway, never ended up watching any of the bands. Sat in the back yard with one of the touring bands, young kids, and they smoked me up, which was awesome. One of them didn't know the difference between "catatonic" and "schizophrenic."  I drank a couple beers and bummed cigs and wandered through the crowd. Nighttrain + weed = floaty happiness, so long as the ratio is right.

there used to be a showspace like that in richmond. it was known as the twin towers. shows there always ended way earlier than anyone expected them to because there was never any setup time between bands... you'd just file out of one basement and into the other after each band finished.

we drove around oakland looking for crazy fireworks displays. it was awesome. like urban tornado chasing. we would listen out the window and follow the sound. we saw some pretty amazing, illegal shit. i think the best was these people who had taken over an intersection on a major street and were just firing all kinds of insane professional-looking fireworks into the air, some of which would occasionally explode on the ground. Also someone did a drive-by fireworking and threw a firecracker out the window into the intersection as they sped by. it was absolutely crazy. the cops just gave up, i think. it kind of felt like a popular uprising. there were some streets where people threw fireworks at passing cars. i'm surprised we didn't see any fires or car crashes or anyone get seriously hurt.
