Aglaya and our friend Darcy came to visit this weekend and it was pretty awesome.  tMO and I got up and made everyone a big breakfast of pancakes and scrambled eggs and bacon.  We went record shopping (literally ALL but about fifteen of Aglaya's cds were stolen months back, so she's building her collection from the ground up) and then across the street to this awesome yarn/knitting shop.  Then to Central Presbyterian downtown for my brother's Senior Organ Recital, which kicked ass.  Finally, we kicked around Little 5s for a while, ending at Ali Baba's to eat falafel and share a hookah.

It was a really nice weekend.

Where is Crissee these days? And by where I mean, why is she not here?

WOOT! I have finally finished the Blood Meridian section of my thesis, and turned it in for review! I am celebrating with a couple of cold ones at my favorite bar, thinking about working on a story I've been playing with.

Though really I should continue on to the Last Exit to Brooklyn section, but hey, fuck it, it's bad decision Monday!

Oh fuck well it IS Bad Decision Monday but I'm working on the LEtB section anyway cuz MAN it feels good to just get some motherfucking WORK done! And it's a beautiful spring day! And I'm having drinks! Life = Much Love right now!

Also anyone that's read Blood Meridian and is perhaps interested in reading 20+ pages of analysis and giving me their frank opinions on it, please let me know

Yay for for finishing draft chapters and for getting work done, Miles!

(I haven't read Blood Meridian, though.)

Ah, ya know my love for you is eternal. Heck, I'd forgotten about that other thing anyway.

On topic, making me happy is that after four 12 hour shifts on the trot I don't have to go into work tomorrow. The old people can get their own medicine!

Yeah! Screw their medical needs!

Dom, I will definitely send that on over to you! And I hope that once I finish the Selby section, you'll read that as well, as you're one of the few Selby readers I know.

The people who employ me seem pretty keen on screwing their patients (I'm sorry clients) medical, psychological, physical, and care needs, so why shouldn't I be the same!

And hell yes, send the BM bit you've done, and I'd be super interested to read the Selby portion as well. Same goes for the rest, if I remember rightly Flannery O'Connor is in there, right? Wise Blood, is the one I think you said you were doing.

Yeah actually my initial idea of a thoroughgoing evaluation of five different novels over five decades turned into a discussion of two novels because I realized at some point that writing a 100pg thesis is probably not conducive to good course grades. So it's just BM and LEtB, with a bit of an introduction. Maybe someday I'll expand it to something book-length, though!

Heh, my thesis had 125 pages, I think. I should've narrowed it down, though, so good call there!

After over two weeks of being computer-less due to a melted power cord and marginal competence by my first "Genius" at the Apple Store, I now have my beloved Macbook back and in working order.

Yay!

Also, I have a couple days off after working three 12-hour nights in a row.  All is well.

Yay! Good to see you, Katie! I hope we end up moving to CHI and not NYC sos I can hang with you and Frank and Jeb-o and all the good MKE peeps

Also alex: this isn't even really like a real thesis, it is something I'm doing to earn departmental honors. Minimum requirement is 40 pages. So no need to kill myself, is what I'm saying; especially considering that I've got 16 hours worth of regular classes to think about on top of it.

Alright, yeah, different thing. And in any case, I totally didn't mean to imply that you should do more than that, I honestly think that narrowing it down is usually a good choice in such academic undertakings.

Hilariously enough, however, I tried sketching out a tentative structure for my PhD the other week and ended up with 12 chapters or so. I'm a hopeless case, it seems.

No way, man! If anything, I wish I could just churn out 100 pgs and have the luxury of pruning it down to 40 or 50 pages that really expressed my argument well. Better to have an excess than a deficit in matters such as these!

Alex, you know in june that I'm going to bug the hell out of you with questions about your thesis and your PHD.

Man, you guys are getting me all worked up over the idea that next year my course gets all essay instead of presentation and exam based.

Aw, thanks, but if I wait until June I can watch you squirm and look for an escape route as the questions are asked.
