Played an awesome show last night, sold a buncha CDs, made like 60 bucks. We played with an awesome band of youngsters from Nebraska called Yuppies. And hung out with them today and drank beers and watched Wonder Showzen. And then saw them again tonight, and they were even better than last night.

Also, we're going to be renting a practice space in the basement of this place, which is my favourite venue/art space in Milwaukee.

Glad it went well! Those kids are doing some great stuff. They're involved in a couple other bands here as well, and they're consistently solid.

What are the other bands?

I'm pretty sure their drummer also plays in a band called Perry H Matthews, they're similar to Yuppies: noisy, hollering garage rock sort of thing. And Noah has his own project just under his name with some people backing him that sounds a bit like early Simon Joyner stuff. In fact, I saw them play a few weeks ago and they did a pretty excellent cover of Joyner's "Joy Division."

Awesome, congratulations!

Is this for the MA you mentioned recently, or one of the PhDs you applied for?

Yeah, it's for the MA, which it turns out I'm way happier about than I thought I would be! (For instance, I had no idea I would get funding. I'd only applied because it is a/the top program blah blah.) I'm on a waitlist for one PhD program, but even if that turns in my favor I might very well give it the boot and just go for the MA. Hooray!

I do apologize for the gloating. Wait, no, I don't.

I have a test/interview for that job I want at uni on Thursday morning! One of the guys who will interview me had Bourdieu as a thesis supervisor, how fucking impressive is that?

Not so much delighted as (very) cautiously happy, now, but still.

I've got an interview today for a voice-over job!!  I might be on some upcoming National Geographic specials if I nail it!

How cool is that shit?!  You guys might be hearing dkT speaking to you via PBS very soon!

All my adult life people have been telling me that I should either be in radio or doing voice work.  I'm finally getting the chance to do so and I'm uber-stoked!

That's awesome, D! I've been told the same thing many times re: voice work.
How'd you hear about this job?

Also big ups, hh. Did you get in somewhere out in CHI?

Hey, cool, congratulations! And good luck!

Glad to hear that it's in the morning, too, so I guess it should still be possible to drive to Aachen on the same day?

Good to luck to Dennis as well, of course!

First of all, thanks everybody! And good luck to edison and dkT!

Did you get in somewhere out in CHI?

Unfortunately, no. I got into Iowa, which is sort of a bummer... if I had to move, I was hoping to be able to move back east to be near family and most of my friends. BUT I'm visiting next week, so I'm willing to be convinced a westward move is worth my while!

Thanks! A little place I like to call "Iowa Metropolis." Err, "Town." I mean, "City."

Things worthy of happiness, I do believe: Jacob is an hour away from being done with this quarter; my mother arrives on Tuesday morning for a five-day Chicago-area stint; it may not look like it, but it's spring.

No, I wish! That'd be awesome. Didn't apply to it, though. The film studies program.

Heh, my temptation to apply to the Iowa writers workshop is tempered by the fact that it's in Iowa. Also that I probably wouldn't get in.

Congrats Hannah! Despite my prejudices against Iowa I'm sure it's an awright place. I mean milly lives there!
