Dammit, if the last two digits of my ssn were lower than 20, I'd get my deposit on my birthday!

i don't like my new job much, and i was all feeling sad about it, and get home and answer the phone to a woman from the state, to set up an interview this week. then i'm all happy.
then, i get a call from some dude and it sounds like he's driving and it's a job offer for this job i actually left orientation to have my third interview with -- and shit, it's great money! i's rich!
i'm not sure what to do about the job i just started last week, but i think i'll keep working there, until the friday before the other job (mid may) and then i'm going to take my pants off in the presence of my boss and start eating my lunch. when security removes me, i'm gonna yell, 'it's pb&j, why you gonna throw me out for eating a pb&j, do my thighs look fat?"

Milly you shouldn't be surprised by all the job offers. I personally would hire you in a hot second.

You'd think that they'd be mediocre, but they really are good. They're frozen unbaked, and you let them proof overnight and then bake them in the morning.
Nevermind edison, he's just being a spoiled French brat who can get excellent freshly baked petit pains au chocolat at the corner of his street every morning.
(edison, nevermind me, I'm just jealous, obviously.)
Yeah, sometimes I just have to act like the resident French kid that I am! I have to say I'm not sold on the concept of chocolate croissant altogether, although I'm very much into both chocolate and croissant, because usually they're a bit too creamy for my tastes. So pain au chocolat it is, but I'm well aware I'm in a priviledged position as far as these things go.

dude, you know what drives me nuts? i was introduced to pain au chocolat in paris, and then i got back to the us and discovered that the french bakery down the block from where i work calls pain au chocolat "chocolate croissants". they are SO OBVIOUSLY not the same thing. wtf.
also i got them from that place maybe 3 times before deciding it wasn't worth it. they gave me severe intestinal distress every time. i think they use too much butter.

They probably do it to not confuse you kooky yanks. You can't be trusted to know of anything outside your borders, you know.

Yeah, but then they could call it something else entirely, because calling "croissant" something that is not crescent-shaped is actually kind of confusing.

This discussion is making me hungry - and I have to meet the intern translators in front of the nearby bakery in ten minutes. Hmmmm.

Well, the discussion is reminding me that the bakery I wanted to go to this morning (which has pretty good pain au chocolat, but they do call it chocolade-croissant, too) was closed, so I ended up getting some bread from the supermarket instead, where they didn't even have the kind of bread that I usually buy when I buy my breakfast there. This does not belong in the happy thread.

Ah, bummer. Me, I forgot (gasp) to go to the bakery after meeting the interns, so I ended up having overpriced (but good) strawberries at the cafeteria downstairs. Will rectify my error after lunch though.

This reminds me that the other week in the shop, I was standing next to a batch of strawberries and I could smell them. I was really tempted to buy them, because if they smell of strawberries they probably taste of strawberries (and not of water) too, but then I decided it was a little early for strawberry season and perhaps it is better to wait for a little while. They were Spanish, too, which is never a good sign. But I guess strawberry season is really about to start now, huh? That is all sorts of happy-making.

Well, most of the strawberries I've seen so far were from Spain, but on one or two occasions I couldn't resist. The ones I had were really good.

i like "chocobread", personally.
that sentence works just as well without the quotation marks.

a) I'd really like a some of this 'chocobread...' I'm not sure I've ever had pain au chocolat, but...well, how could I go wrong?
b) What's wrong with Spanish produce?

In this case, for instance:

Also, you know, they spend days and days in trucks before they actually get to us.
edit: last but not least, the whole sector notoriously works with ridiculously badly paid illegal immigrants. Not saying this does not happen elsewhere, but I believe, as far as I know, that the conditions are particularly bad over there.

The news story is what I was wondering about, as I hadn't heard anything about that. As far as produce spending days in trucks before getting to the people who are going to eat it...well...I pretty much ASSUME most of the produce in my local store gets to me that way.
And that is why I'm really excited that Lucy and I got a full share of produce from a CSA this summer.

Same here. I'm not getting mine until late June, possibly July.
That's in time for a late anniversary present, I guess. If we get any money worth spending on anything other than bills, that is.
