Half cup frozen mango
one banana
one cup vanilla yogurt
soy milk
protein powder
Blend until smooth.

My flatmate's parents are visiting from Abruzzo and they brought homemade artichoke timballo, which is like lasagne but with a crepe-style pastry instead of the usual pasta. Also, the artichokes were grown in their back garden. And then homemade apple cake.

Yeah - it's really good. I'm not sure what the deal is with asking Italians for recipes and this is the first time I've met 'em so I'm not gonna push it. But, soon as they've gone, I'm asking my flatmate to ask his mother for the recipe for sure.

So it was just the artichoke hearts, I assume?
As we speak, I'm looking at a whole mess of different timballo and crepe recipes, cutting and pasting and altering to make something that sounds like that dish. Please tell me if there's anything else special I should know about it! Did it have some kind of white sauce? Or something tomato-based? Any other vegetables?

Even though there's honestly no reason why I should be spending money right now as I'll be lucky to not starve in the next week, I picked up some more smoothie materials and experimented. Tonight's smoothie included:
One (1) Banana
One (1) heaping half cup frozen peaches
One (1) half cup green tea chai
One (1) half cup nonfat yogurt
One (1) scoop quick dissolve protein powder
I'd give this one a two. Not undrinkable thanks to the banana (I never was a banana fan before, but now I'm constantly surprised at how the banana flavor always comes to the top and manages to even out any other flavors) but definitely in need of some work. Thinking back to my day at Starbucks, I had the bright idea of getting a can of matcha tea. The plan was to then follow that up with a bunch of mango and hopefully make something in the vicinity of a mango green tea smoothie. However, the store didn't have any matcha that wasn't absurdly priced, so I instead opted for the chai. Unfortunately, the peaches pretty much disappeared into the background and were totally overwhelmed by the chai, which I thought was horrifically overspiced to begin with. Green tea isn't strongly flavored enough to balance with the rest of the spices. Also, I'm going to opt for the vanilla quick dissolve protein powder next time. Without the extra flavor, the protein powder came off grainy.

Vanilla Chai. Vanilla chai is what you want, I think.

I bought a bottle of Kefir last night, and I'm really digging it. I wasn't expecting it to be quite so thick and sour.

No, actually. The only spices I tend to use are red pepper flake, salt and pepper. I put a bay leaf in this time.

For about the third time in a row I'm eating my dad's delicious lima bean soup. I don't know how he makes it, but it involves onions, garlic powder and soy milk. And it is also delicious.

GREG:
in a review of Ko, they make this:
apple pie. It’s sculptured into individual-size rectangles and deep-fried with sour cream ice cream and a swish of sweet, salty toasted miso.
NOW YOU MAKE.
