on Saturday I went to a Kentucky Derby party that featured hot browns, chess pie, derby pie, and mint juleps, among other delights.
I think my sister is exiling all the men in the family from her baby shower, and I think the consensus is we will go to the tracks and gamble and then maybe go fishing.

edit to add mint juleps are nasty.

yes--I like mint juleps in theory, but definitely not in practice.

I tried to make a mint julep once but I ended up with a leafy alcoholic mess. Guess I wasn't too far off?

I like 'em all right, especially if you have not-such-good whisky to work with.  Mainly, I like thinking about the episode of the Simpsons where Moe asks, "Who wants a bathtub mint julep?" and the Southern gentlemen raise their hands.

Ooh, a really good mint julep can be so refreshing. A lot of cocktails can be rather awful if they're out of proportion or made with syrups or powders, though. Fresh fruit always seems to be such a winner.

Oooh, I've had those made with raspberries, which are good, but with blueberries sounds tasty too. I think blackberries would be delicious.

Yeah, that sounds great actually. I like blackberries more than either raspberries or blueberries.

Berries berries berries!

Seriously tho the best mojito I ever had was in MPLS of all places and there were thick spears of sugar cane stalk up inz.

i bought this Revolution Ginger Peach tea that i had my eye on today, and holy heck was that a good idea.  i don't think i'm going to get any medicinal benefit from the ginger, but this is some super good tea.  it smelled so sweet just while it was steeping.

I am going to bring the low-brow to this thread:

i just bought a bag of these new "Doritos COLLISIONS".  There are two flavours, hot wings and blue cheese.  I'm compulsively eating a chip of each flavour at the same time and it is really good.

i seem to be encountering the same issue that i get when eating real wings, running out of blue cheese.  I can't even ask the waitress for more.

Well, Dave, you were the one who recommended the x13-D Doritos, and those were crazy good, so I'm gonna trust you on this.

I just cleaned up after a lecture here at work, and people left a bunch of blueberries on the refreshment table.  Which means that GUESS WHO HAS TWO THUMBS AND FISTS FULL OF BLUEBERRIES

I DO AND I LIKE BLUEBERRIES

i had those spicy sweet chili doritos and had this total "OMG WTF" reaction to the taste. it took me half the bag to decide if i liked them or not. but one thing is for sure--i could not stop eating them.

i gotta get my hands on the hot wings/blue cheese doritos though. holy fucking shit.

I've been eating those Doritos Collisions for a while now.  I highly recommend the Hot Wings/Blue Cheese combo.  They're the real deal.  I keep thinking I'm sick of them when I go to the store late at night and pass on them, but then a few weeks later I'll get drunk and buy em anyway. They still taste good and make me wish Doritos could do that good of a job with all their flavors...  Unfortunately, Frito-Lays raised prices on the big Doritos bags by 30 cents in the past few weeks...  When you can get some real good regional-brand potato chips for half that price or less, I have a hard time justifying the purchase.

PS they still smell like doritos so don't go and open a bag in the car or around people you want to make friends with.
