true, but i think it's easier for a non-smoker to understand the benefits that come with the negatives where smoking pot is concerned. i personally have never been able to figure out why people smoke cigarettes.

So consuming significantly less burning plant matter compared to cigarettes doesn't matter in your estimation? Not to mention that smoking isn't the only way to consume cannabis?

yeah, that's the only part the argument that holds for me.  but then there's the fact that cigarette smokers don't hold the smoke in their lungs for like 5-10 seconds.

and yeah, i guess eating pot brownies isn't bad for you.

Actually though, there's some evidence that the depressant effects of pot work on a cellular level to suppress the metabolic rate of lung cells, which is the opposite of the stimulant effects of nicotine...cancer is less likely in the slowed-down cells because it's basically out-of-control cell growth. but yeah, that's just counteracting the carcinogens that are already there. and burning does = bad for you.

And yeah, the benefits in my opinion far outweigh the risks, but I'm biased.

This week has seen the first steps in a eight month programe during which I will attempt to quit smoking. For the last eight days I've kept under 20 a day (previously was smoking between 30-50. At in a month I will try to knock it down to under 15, three months down to under 10, and another three months and the targets for less than five. After fifteen years of smoking this is the first real (and only second of any kind) attempt to quit. However, I'm loathe to tell people because the majority of anti-smoking peoples annoy the fuck out of me and I tend to make me want to smoke more.  I suspect of all the things I've given up in the last six months this might be the hardest.

that's what "they" say.  My dad just quit smoking about a month ago for his 60th birthday and he'd been smoking since he was 15.  The last time he tried to quit he had a heart attack.  I'm sure you won't have a heart attack.

i started smoking because an older kid informed me when i was 14 that i would get "40% more buzzed" if i had a ciagrette, and who am i to argue with science like that?

I still I can't believe that people smoke. 

i continue to smoke cigarettes - many years after ceasing to be a regular dopesmoker - because it's better than the alternative, which is choking you if i can't have one.

I'm ok.  Naw, I was trying to poke a hole in a bag with a serrated knife, and misjudged.  I cut myself on the job all the time, it's kind of strange watching my hands transform into the hands of an old man what with the manual labor, frequent minor injuries and my enhanced stress-based aging regimen.  but this is probably the worst injury I've sustained since the last serious cut I had on the job last year, which went something like:

*looks at hand, notices strange crease*
*numb icy feeling*
*GUSH*
*GUSH*
*GUSH*

On a positive note, I think a nontrivial amount of my blood may have improved the butter chicken, actually.  I'll have to note this in the margin of my copy of the necrecipenomicon.

I have had some lovely compliments this week and also someone who tells me that they really like how I look on the regular, but sometimes I still burst into spontaneous tears whilst getting dressedand catching sight of myself in the mirror because my god, its hideous and I'm not really depressed any more, so I just think that that is a feeling that will just last the rest of my life forever and ever world without end

Thanks, its so lovely that you guys say that to me, but I wasnt after more compliments, its just frustrating that most of the other shit I got seems to be working itself out and that is one thing that just wont go away (though I guess its been around longer than any of my other depression stuff, so...). I was reading my old comics this morning, and I think I used to be way more angsty about it three or four years ago, so improving. But fuck it, its so frustrating to intellectually think, ok, people arent going to start dry retching at the sight of me, but emotionally be really scared of that happening.

Also there is now a guy in the lobby on his cellphone who is evidently in the middle of a messy divorce and is saying things to his soon-to-be-ex in strangely reasoned tones like "You're mother's a fucking cunt. She's a drug addict. But that's her problem! She doesn't need to call me a philanderer. Everyone knows I'm a philanderer. I can't keep my dick in my pants!"
