I'm going to - fuck - somewhere in the midwest?

And I can guarantee you'll like every superhero movie we watch better than me.

exactly. damn, is it uneven.

you know you'll always be my best boy, son.

oh man so i watched that movie 'doomsday'. after the triumph that was 'the descent' i really expected a lot from this director. but i can't give this sumbitch a pass. this movie was terrible in every way. why would someone who had a nice buzz decide to make this movie? career-killer.

oh, i almost forgot, i watched "bottle rocket" last night. not as good as "rushmore" and "royal tenanbaums", but i liked it better than "life aquatic" (which a bunch of my friends have told me lately that i need to rewatch, because they all swear it's a good bit better the second tme). i could tell that the stuff i wasn't as into in "bottle rocket" was because wes anderson hadn't really hit his stride yet, and there were definitely parts that did match up to the quality of "rushmore"/"royal tenanbaums". just wasn't as consistent. on the whole, i liked it but didn't love it.

I saw bottle Rocket before Anderson got all famous and shit, and I think I need to re watch it. I remember loving it, "I'm the star, and Bob, you're the zero..."

What a lemon! One minute it's running like a top, and the next it's broken down on the side of the road. And I can't fix a car like this, because I don't have the tools! And even if I did have the tools I don't know if I could fix a car like this!

Here are just a few of the key ingredients: dynamite, pole vaulting, laughing gas, choppers. Can you see how incredible this is going to be? Hang gliding, come on!

dignan kind of blew my mind every time he opened his mouth. i liked anthony's romance with inez. that kind of blew my mind too.

i just finished watching mario bava's "black sunday". there was a little bit of cheesy love schmaltz and also a scene in which a bat was really obviously a puppet; so obviously that i had trouble suspending disbelief. but for the most part, it was surprisingly good, especially since it was more like a 50s hammer film or something than a 70s italian gore film. the only bava stuff i've ever seen before has been his later work, so it was neat to see him do something in a bit of a different style, especially since he was still really good at it.

also, the dvd had trailers for a bunch of his other movies--"black sabbath", "kill baby kill", "the girl who knew too much", and "knives of the avenger". actually, i'm not sure that last one is bava. anyway, i now want to see all of them. fortunately, 3 of them are already on my netflix queue.

I really wanted to see Black Sunday, but it was out, so I asked Mr Sing the Children over to recommend me another Bava film. He gave me "twitch of the death nerve" and Colin and I eagerly watched it, Colin especially, for although he has his Honours in film, and is a director, he had NEVER KNOWINGLY SEEN A HORROR MOVIE. And Twitch of the Death Nerve was the most boring, garbled, directionless piece of shit. I was so disappointed.

OT, I went to my friends house last night and we ate amazing food, and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" came on TV, and it was so racist and badly acted and awful we turned it off and watched "Bonnie and Clyde" which I had never seen. It was fucking good. My friends sixteen year old daughter really liked it too, I like watching films with kids who like good films.

I saw Speed Racer yesterday!  It was one of the most unpleasant films I have ever seen in my life, and I'm including in that assessment:

-  home videos of random strangers' vacations
-  The entire filmography of Jean-Luc Godard
-  BangBus

If anyone is thinking about seeing Speed Racer, I suggest you stop thinking about that now, and then think about something else to clear your mind of those thoughts, and then snort some hydrogen peroxide to try to kill off any remaining desire you might have to see it.

Anyway, I rented Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior, so maybe that'll be a good antidote to watch this evening.

I know I'm probably really late on this, but I just saw No Country for Old Men. I liked it a lot, just like everyone said I would. I really liked Javier Bardem's character. I don't know what it is with me and psychopaths.
