Well, clearly, watching you bitch about articles on the internet doesn't get me as mad as Slate does you. But I AM trying.

Just go read the articles linked to in this thread. There's 7 pages worth of shitty, shitty articles.
That's why.

What the fuck. "Will she do for clothes what Oprah did for books?" is a mess of illogic, vague racism, false analogy, and poop.

OBAMA SHOULD GET GEEKS FOR HIS CABINET AND OH BTW INTELLIGENCE = AUTISM.
Quote
Summers can also be arrogant and politically incorrect. He sometimes does a poor job hiding his contempt for lesser intellects and loves to play the intellectual provocateur. Socially, he can be a bit autistic.
what does that even mean
autism is not a personality trait, for god's sake. how about "socially inept"? "awkward"? perhaps "insensitive"? because that's obviously what you mean but somehow found the most offensive, off-target way to say it. actually i think he nailed it with the first two sentences, and yet "semi-autistic" ends up in the subtitle of the article.
i should get in on this slate-bashing thread more often.

Do you remember, about a decade ago, when ADD was a personality trait, replacing terms like "active," "greagarious," or "addicted to coke"? I blame the internet.

Not a rip on L&O (I suspect my feelings on it are similar to yours), a rip on the article (and specifically that pompous headline).
The article was like, "Why are you giving me a book report on a Law & Order episode you just watched"?

Haha yeah fair enough
Although of all the unnecessarily esoteric descriptors, "quotidian" probably comes pretty close to the mark when you think about it

I'd be glad to have Obama start dropping titles of books about politics into interviews regularly, especially if said books then start selling like Oprah book club titles. I'd sure rather have people reading Jonathan Alter's book about FDR than "The White Oleander".

It's ultra-professional, yes—but oh my, is it busy. Guns N' Roses always mixed up its hard rock with other stuff: pop-metal, boogie-blues, Queen-inspired glam, schmaltzy piano pop in the Elton John mode. But Chinese Democracy ups the fussiness factor a hundredfold—call it hard rococo.
I am generally pro-pun but someone needs to be shot for this

Isn't it time for Hillary Clinton to get a quickie divorce from Bill (it can be done; it took about 20 minutes for Madonna to dissolve her marriage) before her confirmation hearings start? The New York Times reports that over the last few weeks of negotiations between Obama's representatives and Bill, he has agreed to various restrictions on his business and philanthropic dealings to keep Hillary from getting mired in a bunch of scandals and conflicts. He promises to "submit his future personal speeches and business activities for review by State Department ethics officials and, if necessary, by the White House counsel’s office." Yeah, that should work, because if we know anything about Bill Clinton it's that a) He responds well to being on a short leash, and b) He's really good at filing timely paperwork.
Surely Hillary will not have trouble getting confirmed, but her hearings will be all about Bill—Sen. Richard Lugar virtually promises that. As her presidential campaign made clear, not only does Hillary not need Bill anymore, he has turned into a liability (except financially, and she would come away with a big settlement). And just think, if she divorced him, it would be the first time that their relationship made sense.
Good times

It would be interesting to go back ten years and look at the editorial pieces telling Hillary what she should have done then.

I've always figured that he cheats and she puts up with it because she's getting other things out of the relationship.
