Okay, new list. You love the titles of these songs, but the songs themselves do not live up to the titles.
I start with this meager contribution: "Prepare to Qualify" by the Locust. Goddamn if I wasn't expecting a cover of the "Pole Position" theme song.
I'm sure you can all think of some better examples... I'm off to play some "Pole Position."

I am tempted to nominate the entire ouvre of Anal Cunt, except that the songs are pretty awesome in their own special dinghy way.

Ah, you reminded me of another one. "Dreams Are Free, Motherfucker!" by the Minutemen, which is just incoherent jamming.
Strange. "Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat" is the record that got me into them, but now I'm realizing it's one of their lesser works.

American Music Club had a least a couple of great titles--"What Godzilla Said To God When His Name Wasn't Found In The Book Of Life" and "I Just Took My Two Sleeping Pills And Now I'm Like A Bridegroom Standing At The Altar'"--that were nowhere near as good as the titles would suggest. They had another, "The Amyl Nitrate Dreams of Pat Robertson" that, although I haven't heard it, is a great title.

yeah, what's weird is that american music club's best songs were usually the ones with totally normal titles. the ones with the weird titles were usually not nearly as good. well, except for "the hopes and dreams of heaven's 10,000 whores". that song is great just like its title.

I'd say almost every song by Neil Perry. Screaming doesn't do much for me.

oh man, neil perry ("josh's dream party: beer, girls, and a computer") were MASTERS at titling songs. other fast hardcore bands who were super good at that include charles bronson ("let's start a revolution so i can break some shit"), swallowing shit ("if assholes could fly, this place would be an airport"), and the ultimate warriors ("don't yell names of stupid metal bands between our songs"). of course, i REALLY LIKE all of those bands, so the songs were far from ehh in MY opinion.

"Your Pussy Is Glued To A Building On Fire" (John Frusciante)
Actually I can't remember what that song is like but I'm pretty sure nothing could ever live up to that title, especially not by that dude.
People still care about Grand Buffet???

Almost every Fall song is good to great, and almost every Fall Song title is great to unbelievably great. But as I recall---or more accurately, as I fail to recall, because I must have heard it at least 15 times in the full LP context and can't remember it at all---I think "The Birmingham School of Business School" let down its title.

and then there's ryan adams. most people tend to agree that his debut is pretty damn respectable, and i like it myself, but...
"to be young (is to be sad, is to be high)" is a better title than song (though the song isn't bad)...and "damn sam (i love a woman that rains)" is too short to live up to it's name.

i don't care if it was on the soundtrack to "old school", that song rules, and is actually one of his best, i think. that said,
llor n kcor
is hands down the worst title in rock history, but is actually a pretty decent record if you give it a chance.

Resurrect! Kind of. I don't think this song is crappy; in fact I kind of enjoy it. But I didn't see any "Awesome Song Titles" thread.
I'm listening to Thought Industry's song, "Love is America Spelled Backwards".

i had a friend who owned their second album back in 1994, and i remember it being REALLY FUCKING WEIRD. way ahead of its time.
do you have any further thoughts for me on this band?

They're definitely weird. They've been around long enough at this point that they're not that weird any more, but they're definitely still quirky, anyway. Sometimes they don't really pull it off; I don't think they're as good as, say, Mr. Bungle, at making strange music that's also consistently good to listen to. But I think it's definitely worth it to pick up an album or two, if you find them cheap.
