It's like reading 4 to 5 different threads going on at once.

That's what half of us do on a daily basis! Or is it just me who sits, refreshing the unread posts page? Come to think of it though, my head does hurt.

i'm reading through the "delorean" section at tiny mix tapes, and i'm finding it a fun little diversion. i just opened the review of the mountain goats' all hail west texas, and it starts off by eulogizing the boombox before claiming, "Of early Mountain Goats records, All Hail West Texas features Darnielle at his most confident."

and i'm like, "early, what?!"

and then i felt old.

Yeah, I'm with you, davy. Early Mtn Goats to me = "Transmissions From Horace".

I stopped reading Tiny Mix Tapes when they plastered their site with advertisements. They've also gone way left-field with their music tastes. I used to love that site though.

On this song, this guy does the best Thom Yorke impression I've ever heard, and I've heard some good ones:

Rickolus - Winter's Daughter - 04 - Death of Old Winter

The rest of the album is less Yorkeian. It's a sort of epic, chamber-folk album. Odd in that the first 7 songs are exceedingly good while the last 3 songs just kind of sit there.

Perhaps they found it difficult to say goodbye to yesterday.

When I got home from the bar last night and saw the Canadian Opera Company's junk mail, my first thought was that I'd better order my season ticket immediately, before I sober up and think better of it. So, thanks to that great late-night impulse-buy facilitator known as the internet, I now have a bunch of Wednesday evenings at the opera next year.

I was just sitting, looking out of my window and listening to Radiohead - Sail to the Moon, when I see this old man on the sidewalk across the street walking with his hands in his pockets.

He was walking very strange, deliberately lifting one foot higher than normal, and very slowly putting it in front of the other foot. It took a second for my brain to realize it, but he was walking in perfect time to the beat of the song, and continued to do so the whole time I could see him.

It was the most amazing/scary/awesome/weirdest/holy shit I must be in the Twilight Zone thing ever.

It has suddenly become clear to me that, good as the first two albums were, Axxess & Aces is the point where Songs:Ohia first nibbled upon the biscuit of true greatness.

See, this is where I strongly disagree with the majority of Molina fans. While the self-titled debut and the early 7"s and EPs were very good, I think Impala and Axxess & Ace were completely meritless, with the exception of the closer on the latter. Impala conjures malaise to me, recalling those dead and dark mental states that one has when truly depressed, but it somehow lacks the poignancy that causes such music to normally appeal so much to me. Axxess & Ace goes in almost the opposite direction, dealing in a kind of funk and swaggerish music that's never appealed to me. Lioness is to me where the true splendor of Molina's music began to show, particularly on the  first and last songs, "The Black Crow" and "Just A Spark." (One thing I've always loved about Molina is that his openers and closers are nearly always socko.

sorry for digging up an old quote (it's been a while since i've seen this thread), but i absolutely agree w/ you...i don't listen to A&A or Impala hardly at all; but from Lioness onwards it's brilliance galore.

Cheers, Narlus! We are brothers in our Molinahood. (Or at least siblings. I'm not sure about your gender.)

They're the solo project of the guy who used to be 16 Horsepower. I heard that his band left him because they were tired of his preachy, fire & brimstone songs, but I don't know if that's true. I just know that he has Christian-inspired lyrics and plays a kind of gothic folk music. I don't have any opinion on the guy one way or the other as I haven't listened to enough of his stuff to have an opinion.

J. Tillman making headlines on teh Pitchfork!!

I'd hoped that he could get some extra publicity for his work as a result of his Fleet Foxes gig, and this is about as good as it gets. Also great to hear that he's opening for them on the tour. This is fantastic news, as I'm sure he will enthrall a large number of concert-goers and drastically increase his following. Now if we could just get Elephant Micah to join Magnolia Electric Co....

Thanks, Ryan and Andrew. I have him confused with Wooden Wand, I think, who can veer into God territory now and again too.

That's the commercial, but Os Mutantes? It's just blowing my mind.
