knew a lawyer on the Lower East Side she lived in a closet $2400 a month. couldn't have been bigger than a normal-sized bedroom, the whole thing. great location though, you could walk out the front door & get hit in the schnoz with a snowball of Life the size of the Hoover Dam.

i pay $850 /mo for a studio in l.a.
granted it's over 400 sq ft, so it's a good sized studio and it's a few minutes from downtown, but l.a. is still dumb.

I'm trying to figure out what's reasonable rent for a room in a house in Berkeley and craigslist isn't really helping. I guess I just have to see the houses I'm looking at and decide if it's worth it? Ahhhhh I don't know how to do this! I am a n00b at real life.

Yeah I live in a 2 bedroom apartment in a condo building with about 40 units. Units comparable to mine have sold for $450,000 to $550,000. There's a three bedroom apartment in the building with over 2,000sqft that dropped for 1,100,000. Its insane and stupid. YOU SHARE WALLS WITH ANNOYING PEOPLE AND HAVE A SHARED LAUNDRY ROOM.
The parking spot next to the one I rent was up for sale for $36,000. I was thinking about buying it and building a really tall skinny house on it.

Dude, don't diss the condo. If we didn't let the white people bring their little piece of suburbia into town, they'd buy the all the nice old historical urban houses in the neighbourhoods I want to live in, and renovate the living shit out of them. Cultural safety valves, man.

Now that would suck. I am trying to reconcile myself to the garish condos going in on our waterfront with my admittedly somewhat slightly dubious reasoning. If the condo people stay in their little condo ghetto, and I get to keep my neighbourhoods, I'm willing to call it a wash, but if they're going to trash the waterfront and then come suck the soul from my neighbourhood, too, then I'm gonna take my things and move to Nebraska where life is cheap.

Oh, I am. pollo started in with the white people, not me, I's just following his terminological lead. Toronto condos aren't all that white (racially) in any case. Pretty decent Asian showing as well. But a condo is still pretty much a tiny little suburb transplanted into the middle of town, and I'm pretty comfortable going with "white people" as crass shorthand for soulless suburban caricatures.

My post was "Northeast is not FOR YOU" and by you I meant white people. North Capitol St/Rhode Island Ave. are still a dividing line (as is 11th St N of Florida Ave.)
