Just moving the philosophical argument to the annoyed thread. http://www.lastplanetojakarta.com/forums/index.php/topic,10326.225.html
Happy I will be by tomorrow when I am momentarily assignment-free. Also I can see Grace on another computer! Hi big sister!

Yeah, Lawrence is neat, and it's easy to find showers at the University of Kansas if you happen to be living in a van. Their library also has a great archival collection of rightwing extremist documents. Also I have a High on Fire poster that I grabbed from the bathroom at the Bottleneck right in front of me in my room as I type.

I spent nearly a week in Topeka once, and I'll regret forever that I somehow didn't think to see the Westboro Baptist Church. I mean, I even got into local landmarks and toured the Brown v. Board of Education school and everything, but I failed to see a single "God Hates Fags" sign.

also
Got into film school!

Congrats! I'd like to hear more about this, offline sometime. I'm not too far from resuming a normal life, so maybe we can kick it in the relative near future.

Brothers Aug, I am willing to reassess Nebraska if you can provide me with one (1) ounce of the so-called "Sticky Icky" brand sensory amplification salve.

Feeling a fair bit better. Throat is now under my chin, so I can swallow scrambled egg and mushed up banana as well as soup. The pain is now almost under control with the pain killers, and I've racked up a reasonable amount of sleep over the last couple of days. Next job, making it to uni to hand in final essay of the year, and perhaps managing a little revision this afternoon. Thanks for all the well wishes in the other thread.

That's good to hear, Dom. Continue to feel better, and good luck!

Minor happiness here: This morning, I wrote this silly work schedule to include as an annex with my research plan. It worried me more than the 20-page tract that is my main research proposal, because how the hell do I know what I'm going to be working on precisely two years from now. Just sent it my supervisor to have a look at, and was told it was "perfect".

edit: and major happiness: Yay for supervisors and department heads who, on their own accord and without even a word of complaint from us, decide that our (contractually specified) teaching requirements are too much of a workload and who are willing to fight this out with the higher powers. I don't know what the outcome is yet, but they really seem to be having our back on this one.

Shot mike!

I am temporarily freeee of work and can now go to bed. And tomorrow I get to hang out with friends and family without feeling overly guilty/procrastinate-y. My friend is house-sitting for a month in Aro Valley, which is the Place to Fucking Be. Even if it's in the slightly dodgy Holloway Road. So I'm going to go visit.

Holloway Road is by far the coolest road in the Aro Valley! Damp, a little, but great old places, and not at all gentrified, compared to the rest of the Valley. And all those crazy old people who lived up the end all their lives....

[Also, that's my end too... Except I'm up above it. But you're welcome to come visit and eat red licorice allsort offcuts with me]

I dunno, it's rad, but I like the middle part near the shops quite well. Less far to walk to town/everywhere else. Are you living in Mt Pleasant again then?
She's also near our relatively new friend who's invited us to come watch Tommy with him at some point. His flat seems to have a multitude of communal instruments, and as I miss my piano and the E string on my own guitar I will probably take up the offer. Huzzah.

Hey, congratulations Mike! Primarily on securing that internet connection, of course, but I imagine that the whole being-done-with-your-degree thingy doesn't feel too shabby, either!

I'm up on Harrold... So just off Raroa, near Thule St, the steps you come up from Norway St.
Where are you living now? What's happened to your piano?

Well done Mike!

Also... my echocardiogram this morning was all-clear, which means no heart damage and probably no rheumatic fever either. Yay for not having illnesses unheard of in the modern western world!

Dude... you have no idea... I have a freakin' GAS MASK at my house right now and a fancy vaporizer aerosol machine borrowed from the pharmacy that plugs into the mains. Actually, it is very tedious cos it takes 30 minutes each time and I gotta use it twice a day for the next 7 days. And the gas mask is really just a plastic mask with holes in like cyclists wear. But I do get to keep it at the end of the treatment. Medical gadgets are always good Very Happy

Holy shit! What the heck, and this has all happened since you got back? At least the doc's are getting you sorted. We'll have to chat (im stylee this time) over the weekend and you can fill us in. Hope all the gadgets are proving useful as well as damn cool. Now I must return to the dentists chair.

so awesome, Mike.

I have 30 minutes of class left before I am finished with all of my first year classes. So weird!

And the philosophy professor who I really like brought us all donuts and coffee today to celebrate the last day and pulled me aside to tell me how glad he was I would be taking another class with him next semester. AND he gave me a stack of really old Russian political pins, saying he thought it was time that they get passed on to someone who would enjoy them just as much as he had. Love.
