When you plug it back in to recharge, does it look surprised, intake a quick deep breath, and scream "JUMP"?

Hmm. . . I've never actually heard it talk, but maybe that would explain why sometimes it goes missing for a while and then I find it exactly where I was looking earlier.

So yes, I am back in Tucson. I am living in a guest apartment at my friend's house. Her name is Marianne Dissard. Her new record kind of sounds like if Nico were French and had Calexico as a backup band. Also living at the house is songwriter Amy Rude, who is an old friend and an amazing musician. Her new record, Heartbeast, is pretty kewl.
I have job interviews. I have lengthened visiblilty from clear skies. The dogs have dust to kick up. We are happyish.
I have been missing you all and lurking when I could. Kissy kiss.

yes, but it's not a hard disk drive
Neither was my iPod -- the one that died wasn't one of the big ones, it was one of the little ones -- thus my surprise.

My mum left her job in March due to her boss (a little rich boy whose daddy bought him a company to play with) being a complete asshole. She's trying to get out of secretarial work now, which is difficult when you have financial obligations, years of secretarial experience, and no degree.
She was interested in getting back into nursing, which she did years ago, but there are no Return To Nursing courses offered in her area (and those courses are tied to your local health authority). But she's also always been interested in doing TEFL teaching but was worried that she'd need a degree - she is like me but more organised, more interested in the English language, and she's actually friendly and socially competent so she'd be perfect as a TEFL teacher. Only thing is that she is not very confident in her own abilities.
Anyways, she applied to do a 4-week CELTA course starting next week and has spent this week doing the application and interview process. She just found out that she got accepted and I'm so happy and proud of her. I mean, I knew she could do it, but I don't think *she* knew she could do it. Now she does.
Also, I have been unable to sing properly for seven weeks after wrecking my voice by singing through a hellish strep throat for a weekend recording session. This does not make me happy, natch. The antibiotics finally cleared up the infection itself this week, but my singing voice is still a mess. I have an appointment for the general ENT clinic next week but was freaking out about the need to find a doctor who is actually experienced in working with singers and singing problems, just in case the general ENT dude can shed no light on how much damage has been done and what I need to do to fix it (assuming that fixing it is a possibility). Anyways, I just got an email from someone who has a recommendation for a singing specialist doctor a few towns over so at least I know that, if the ENT clinic can't help, I've got a number to call for a second opinion. Given how miserable and frustrating it is to not be able to sing, having this recommendation is a huge huge relief and is also making me happy.

I did exactly this, and send your mom my very best wishes and lots of encouragement. I'm starting film school in September, and about to start editing my first commercial project (as a sub-sub-sub-assistant on something that may never be sold, but you have to start somewhere). It can be done!

my ear got syringed and the ringing is NOT gone. meh. but thanks to the steroid/antibiotic drops, I no longer feel like I'm being stabbed repeatedly in the ear, so that's happy I guess.
