I thought that Micachu & The Shapes sounded pretty good on first couple of listens. Not sure if it scales the heights of Jewellery though, time will tell.

I haven't heard it yet.

Edited to add that it sounds pretty good so far.

Trapist - The Golden Years

Let me know what you think! This has gotten many, many plays here.

Bob's Your Uncle - Bob's Your Uncle

1980's Vancouver indie art pop starring Sook-Yin Lee.

Scott Walker - The Drift

This means I'm really committing to giving it a serious listen this time.

Good on you. The Drift ,if not the best album of the past decade, is certainly the most distinctive.

I finally made it out to Prahran, home to a couple of stores I've been meaning to visit. Greville Records and Licorice Pie. Both are fantastic stores with great staff and some fantastic records. Lots of original pressing in mint condition and with reasonable prices:

Thee Prophets - Playgirl
Faust - The Faust Tapes
Francoise Hardy - Portrait In Musik
Francoise Hardy - The Warm Romantic Voice Of
Ennio Morricone - un genie, deux associes, une cloche OST
Ennio Morricone - Moses The Lawgiver OST
Sandy Bull - Fantasias
Alex Chilton - Live In London
Groupe de Recherches Misicales de l'O.R.T.F. - Musique Expérimentale II
Alice Cooper - Love It To Death

Mailorder package yesterday:
The Clean - Oddities
The Beguiled - Blue Dirge
Dicks - These People
Cheater Slicks - Skidmarks
Cheater Slicks - Live Vol 2
Brainbombs - Urge To Kill

I've gotta get over to those shops.  I'm living on the north end of St Kilda, so it's about a 15 minute walk to Greville Street.

Stuff I picked up in Minneapolis:

I don't have a cable long enough to get from my laptop (when it's on my desk) to my stereo in the new place yet, so I've been jamming all vinyl, all the time lately.

The Pierces - You & I

Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues

Scott Walker - Scott 3

I absolutely love his last two albums, much more so than Scott 4 (fine album, but I don't feel as much love for it as many people seem to), so I was surprised when this one blew me away instantly.

Can - Unlimited Edition

Can - Flow Motion

I haven't listened to this one yet and I haven't heard anything on it other than the black sheep hit I Want More. I can't say I'm expecting brilliance, but I had to buy it.

Yep. Both worth a look for sure. Greville records is the more user friendly (and probably more expensive) of the two. Some cool Kraut, and a pretty good selection of prog stuff. Licorice Pie is pretty bare bones with not  much room to move but some real gems. A shop for the dedicated record nerd.

Some stuff I picked up today

Tesico - Tuscan Castle And Country Seat
An interesting one this. A reissue of some long lost Library record from late 70' Italy - a soundtrack to a television documentary apparently. Super interesting lo-fi psyche/komische weirdness with lots of fuzzy electronics.

John Bender - I Don't Remember Now / I Don't Want To Talk About It
John Bender - Plaster Falling
John Bender - Pop Surgery
I've been eyeing up the John Bender box set for a while but it's quite pricey. Today I came across bootleg reissues of the first 3 albums. Released '80-'83 we're talking home recorded minimal wave electronic pop/proto-techno. Definite outsider feel without ever coming across as mental health albums. These are very, very good records.

Swans - The Seer
KTL - V
Comus - Out Of The Coma
And some Strightjacket Nation & Homostupids 7"s.

Great day.

Edited to say I think Scott 3 is probably my favourite of those first 4 albums Reebty.

Stuff I picked up in the last couple days:
Karen Dalton - You Never Know Who's Going to Love You Best, In My Own Time (I know Nick was recommending 1966 over the official albums, but I figured I'd try the real ones first)
Ryan Bingham - Junky Star ( wasn't big on this when it came out, but it was cheap and I'm seeing him next month so I thought I'd give it another try)
Captain Beefheart - Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) (my Favourite Beefheart album)

Let me know what you think! I only heard a couple of recorded things, and I also read things about her not liking studios. I'm very willing to be persuaded. 1966 just has a really appealing intimacy about it, a kind of mellow-lightning in a bottle thing.
