Darling Fascist Bullyboy,
Send me more money you bastard.
May the seed of your loin be fruitful in the belly of your woman.

There's quite a bit of sand. I've seen it. He has an entire coastline's worth in there.

If you're looking for an interesting modern scottish pulp writer read Ian Rankin, Welsh is a fucking tourist (and yeah I don't care if he was born and raised there, he writes he's read about Selby and stopped reading at that moment), and if you're going to watch the Young ones, well there's nothing I can do for you.

I don't actually like Ian Rankin that much, but at least he nails all the things that Welsh gets praised for.

Southland Tales would be my number one choice if you haven't seen that before. Otherwise, I'd go with any of the Planet Earths.

Have you seen Out of the Past? If not, that would be my top choice, too. That or To Have or Have Not. (Lauren Bacall's debut, she was 19, she sings in it with Hoagy Carmichael!)

Noted. I mostly like reading Welsh for the accents anyhow.

And apparently she's auditioned for Hawks before, but he told her to go away for voice training, and she came back 6 months later with her sexy breathy trademark voice. When she had first auditioned it had been, well, a Hee-Haw accent. Can you imagine?

I'm changing my vote. Lauren Bacall's entrance into the movie puts To Have and Have Not just slightly ahead of Out of the Past. It's one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever.

I want to warn you away from Zardoz, Jim, but seeing as how often I refer to that movie, that would probably be dishonest of me.

I've been a netflix rush. I have the 2 at a time unlimited subscription. So I have been making it standard to get the movie, watch it and return it the same/next day. I recently went through a good John Waters phase of Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, and Desperate Living. I loved each one!
They're the coolest!

I present you the following three celebrity Tucsonans:
Linda Ronstadt
Geraldo Rivera (then called, I shit you not, Jerry Rivers)
The guy who played Coach on TV
I lose.
ooh, i can help. i picked up this 'southeast arizona travel guide' when i was down in sierra vista and its got a whole lot of random ones.
to wit: (not necessarily from tucson, but with a tucson connection)
Barbara Eden (Born in Tucson, starred in 'I Dream of Jeannie')
Greg Kinnear (graduated from u of a 1985)
Lee Marvin (lived in tucson from 1975 until his death in 1987)
Don Knotts (attended U of a)
Earl Hindman ("Wilson" on Home Improvement, born in bisbee attended UA)
Jerry Bruckheimer (attended UA)
and finally,
Stephen Baldwin (lives in tucson)
plus you got all those famous planetary scientists.
and don't forget all those celebrities who choose to burn out and commit some stupid crime in phoenix or tucson, diana ross, glen campbell . . . i know there's more

Mike Tyson?
That's pretty cool, though, between Barbara Eden, Don Knotts, and Wilson, they should build a Quirky Sitcom Sidekick Hall of Fame. Coach doesn't quite fit, but that blond, Vikingesque hulk of an assistant coach? If only he were from Tucson.

Well Lauren Bacall in The Big Sleep was the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen in my life so I'm declaring this the winner, with Out of the Past and Southland Tales behind it. However, I've decided I really want to see The Host so I put that at the top of the queue with these ones behind it. Thanks for the recs folks.

the orphanage. i've been wanting to see this for a while, because it was produced by mr devil's backbone -- a film that is, imo one of the best haunted movies ever! shit -- the orphanage did not disappoint. i recommend a viewing with the sound turned entirely too loud, and the lights turned off.
