Did anyone else see In Bruges? I actually ended up seeing it twice in the theater, but I dunno that I ever posted about it.

Yes, you did post about it.
I'll take your word for it that it was good, and I'd be willing to pick it up on DVD sometime, but seriously the trailer made it look so, so bad. When you first posted about it, I couldn't believe you were talking about the same movie.

Really? I don't think I ever saw a trailer for it. Can't imagine a trailer being too deceiving, either, it's a pretty straightforward kind of movie. What made it look so bad?

The trailer made the whole movie look like a Wacky Slapstick Romp Featuring A Midget

There is a midget, but it's not all that slapsticky. Mostly you get to watch Colin Ferrel, Brendan Gleason and Ralph Fiennes say awful things to one another. I thought it was pretty funny, and really well made.

Replace Ferrel, Gleason and Fiennes with Pollo, Dave and Andrew, and that's a pretty good summary of the election thread.

Oh, I saw
I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With
. I'd seen it on the store shelf, and hated the title, the description on the box, and the preview I saw. All signs pointed to it being hell of terrible. But Wally and TSKS both gave it a high recommendation, so I rented it. The whole time I was at the checkout counter, I was sorta gritting my teeth, thinking, "Well, if I hate this Sarah-Silverman-laden monstrosity, I'll at least be able to vent my spleen about it to Andrew and Wally.
As it turns out, they were right; that was a really, really wonderful little movie. Between the fatguy/hotchick pairing, the "I gotta lose weight to get my life together" plot, the fact that it was a movie written by an actor about a guy trying to make it as an actor, and the heavy referentiality towards other films, there were like a million ways the movie could have gone terribly, self-obssessedly wrong. But no, it sidestepped them all, it was lovely and small and charming, realistic without taking itself overly-seriously or lacking in a sense of consequence. Funny in a lot of little quiet ways. I was expecting something like
King of Queens
, but it felt more like
Peanuts
. I liked it a great deal.
Didn't want that to get lost at the bottom of the page because that's a pretty accuarate description of the film and might encourage a few more people to watch it.

I'm gonna second pollo's recommendation for
In Bruges
. It's a just a solid piece of entertainment.

YOU'RE A FUCKING INANIMATE OBJECT
Yeah it's not exactly reinventing the wheel, but it's the best film of its kind that I've seen in quite some time.

Oh and has anyone seen
Mongol
? I thought it
was pretty shitty. I found the plot repetitive and uninteresting, the characters one-dimensional, and the action cool enough, but kinda lacking the context to make it spectacular. like what was up with that final battle scene where all of a sudden dudes had both built up these massive armies, the movie skipped over the whole empire building business that i had actually gone to see. I guess my expectations were kinda stupid, damn you rotten tomatoes!
xpost: the scene with the blanks in the dudes eye was pure gold.

I meant to see this, but didn't get around to it. (I'd watch a movie about Brendan Gleeson watching paint dry, though.) I just added it to Netflix.
I'm disappointed to hear that Mongol wasn't great. I love the trailer for that one!

I just saw The Incredible Hulk, and it was fucking awesome. I hadn't had so much fun at a movie in forever.
But then again, I loved X-Men 3. And Spider-Man 3.
But I feel this was actually a good movie.

Did you see
Iron Man
, Jordo? If so, what'd you think?
Also I heard the CGI in
The Incredible Hulk
is hella cheesy. Confirm or deny.

Just finished watching Affliction. Some scenes were inadvertently funny -- or rather, I could see that to somebody else, they would seem inadvertently funny.
It would be unhelpful to drink now, wouldn't it.
