I do wish people would include the album title under the photo so that we all knew what it was.  Confused

That's Loveless, the most overrated album in the history of rock music.

<leaps into the getaway car and tears off down the street>

edit: just kidding, by the way. i love the album, but i do think the shields-worship gets a little silly at times.

look what i got! it took 2 weeks of selling used CDs on amazon, and two more weeks of waiting for a reasonably priced import to become available, and another week and-a-half to wait for it to arrive in my mailbox. but it's finally mine! and it's totally rad!

Thanks!

It was on a Bloom/Connors compilation from 2000 (?) called 1981-1984, but that's been discontinued.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that Chapter comes up with the goods.

Just listened to the 'Bicycle Song' over at Epitonic and it's a wonderful song indeed! The 1981-1984 comp is now on eBay btw.

Went on another Canadiana splurge at cheap vinyl hut:

All Bruce Cockburn, all the time:

High Winds, White Sky *

Salt, Sun and Time

Humans

Circles in the Stream

The Trouble With Normal

World of Wonders

* I already had this one, but only in a very crackly, my-dad-never-took-care-of-his-records edition. This one sounds much nicer.

And, really only some Bruce Cockburn some of the time. Also picked up:

The Pretenders - Pretenders II
Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (melt)

Glad to hear you liked the Diabaté record, alex! To be honest, I wasn't very worried about that.

I picked up these two on the way back from work:

Randy Newman Harps & Angels

The Dodos Visiter

Is that even controversial?

Yeah, I picked it up after being impressed with their show in Haldern last Sunday, and it is sounding rather great.

It is to me. That's one of my top 20 or so fave records ever.

I downloaded a freebie copy from Epitonic a while ago, but the quality is terrible.  I did listen to it, but don't think I will again.  Better to wait for the real thing.

Thanks for the tip re Ebay.  I've never had an account there for the very good reason that if I did, I could live in a house made entirely of rash purchases.  But it appears to be the only place I can get a certain birthday gift for my niece (not this CD- she's only 2!), so perhaps an account isn't too far away.  Mere hours...?

Picked this up after the show last night on CD:

Drive By Truckers - The Dirty South

The vinyl they had at the merch table all looked very tempting indeed, but 25 Euro (compared to the 15 they asked for the CDs) was just a little bit much...

i saw that record when i went record shopping yesterday and i saw the cover and thought: sweet, a new randy newman record! and it looks great, too! i think i'll just buy it!
then i saw the back cover.
and didn't buy it.

it looked suspiciously like a bo hansson record.

Yeah, I listened to it last year when it came out and I was like 'Meh'. But I'm listening to it now and loving it. Paul Simonon has the best bass tone I've ever heard on this record, and the Danger Mouse influence is awesome. It's doing the exact opposite thing it did the last time I heard it, I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside now, it is a good feeling.

the only thing i would've changed is how low DM put tony allen in the mix. when you've got one of the world's most talented and original drummers playing on your record, he's likely going to do something worth hearing. the few songs that really feature his playing are the highlights for me, though i suppose that's obvious.

That actually was one of the first things I noticed when I started listening to it. It was bothering me at first, but now I really like it. It adds to the whole warm, laid back feel of the record IMO.

Yeah, seriously, get to running. Around here, kids get there asses kicked for saying stuff like that.

In Shields defense, the actual guy seems shocked that there's been so much written about his technique. He's always trying to say "it's very basic, just different", but most of us are still like, "Dude, those aren't chords, they're colors!"
Just got the remastered version. The absolutely epic beginner of Loomer seems even more vicious and
wonderful. The closing guitar/drum-machine rave-up of Soon has a less muddy mix. It put me in a trance on my way to work.

i probably should have grabbed an LP copy of _In Rainbows_ last night for $20.

$40 for a t shirt...why can't we choose our own price for that?
