EDIT: They've also got a pretty cool video of him playing with what looks to be an African kora player named Ballake Sissoko at the bottom of their page.  http://www.blanktapes.org/

Who happens to be the same person you can see playing the kora on the cover of the album Dr. Bob posted about on the previous page.

Fantom Warrior - Fantasy or Reality

Omen - The Curse

Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters
I know vinyl fetishism is not metal, but the 2LP clear vinyl of this has an extra song.  I am a sucker.

That Dropdead LP shreds. They slowed down on the one after that one, but that one is lightning-fast and rips shit all the way through.

don't i know it!
i also got these in the mail yesterday:

daylight dies - lost to the living

venomous concept - poisoned apple

both records sound pretty great so far. i have to say that those album covers are pretty terrible though. especially the venomous concept one, what the hell were they thinking? the daylight dies cover is just boring.

I have always liked Daylight Dies' logotype, though they do definitely tend to the gothy side. Which was really funny when I saw them open for Emperor, and they were humble, softspoken and very polite.

That's the only Dropdead record I own, and I love it. Did you get it on CD?  I only ask because I have never seen it on CD, and I don't even know if it was released that way...

yup, got it on cd. an odd detail is that the cd is divided into 2 tracks only, one for each lp side i guess. i suppose that kind of makes sense considering the length of the tunes but whatever.
it seems dropdead are fans of unconventional things like that, the vinyl version of their second album plays from the inside out which was pretty bewildering first time i put it on.

Only the first side of the record does that. And at the end of side one, the needle falls off the outer edge of the record.

That Dropdead lp is sick.  Band rules so hard.

And for whoever got that Wolves In The Throne Room album, check out the new Nachtmystium (made a thread earlier).  Sick as shit experimental black metal.  So tight.

haha!
still, given the collective experience of those involved (kevin sharp & dan lilker of brutal truth fame + shane embury & danny herrera from napalm death) one would think they could've come up with something more aesthetically pleasing but i suppose that's not what they were shooting for.
well anyway, here's a link to their myspace if anyone would like to listen: www.myspace.com/venomousconcept

Yeah, that Wolf Parade is one of the worst covers I've ever seen.

Mailordering a bunch of albums while on holiday, so that they await you when you get back home, makes returning from holidays so much sweeter. Got all these in the mail while I was gone (the country albums being a replacement for a package that had been returned to sender, so something I had originally order much earlier), plus a notification slip for another package (presumably some stuff from Damon & Naomi's label), which unfortunately had been dropped off at the shop across the street, which will be closed until August 18. Ah well, this is sweet enough:

Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger
Waylon Jennings - Dreaming My Dreams
Merle Haggard - Strangers / Swinging Doors and the Bottle Let Me Down
Elliott Brood - Mountain Meadows
Andrew Chalk - Time of Hayfield
Andrew Chalk - The River That Flows Into the Sands
Andrew Chalk - The River That Flows Into the Sands II
Vikki Jackman - Of Beauty Reminiscing

The covers of my Andrew Chalks album look a bit different, but then, these small pictures couldn't bring across the beauty of those handmade packagings anyway. Plus I got my copy of The River That Flows Into the Sands II as a gift - he had a left-over packaging that he couldn't use because of a small fault on the front cover, so he slipped it in for free, knowing that I had been wavering between ordering this one and Time of Hayfield. How lovely is that!

Oh crap! I didn't know who that band was. Now I'm VERY interested! I'll be checking this out for sure.

AFI - Decemberunderground

Death - Symbolic

Ghostface - the Pretty Toney Album

Kate Havnevik - Melankton

Machine Head - The Blackening

The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute

Method Man - Tical

Opeth - Damnation

Elliott Smith - XO

I realized after I bought it that I probably shouldn't be starting out with Damnation. From what I hear, it strays from their traditional sound.

yeah, damnation is like their "unplugged" album.

best starting point imo is blackwater park. the companion piece to damnation, called deliverance, is pretty good, definitely more representative of their sound.
