Aah- thanks.  I had Boris in my head.

I don't know that record, but I do know other Boredoms stuff, and I had the pleasure of seeing them at Lollapalooza in 1994- a highlight, along with The Flaming Lips.  And I got Yoshimi and Eye to sign a shirt for a friend back home.

The lowlight was missing The Palace Brothers because our limo got stuck in traffic.

Hah, whoa, Bob, I saw that same Lollapalooza tour. Only, I saw it three or four days after Green Day had taken over the opening slot from the Boredoms. Also, neither the Flaming Lips nor Palace Brothers played the date I went to. But I did get to see Stereolab. Thankfully, the Boredoms played DC two days before the Lollapalooza date, so I actually got to see them too.

I get the idea from their more recent work that seeing them now would be like seeing a whole different band, though.

yeah, no Palace or FL, or Stereolab for that matter, for me either, but I saw the Boredoms on that tour too, in St. Paul. I think I've described it here before, but they played at like 10am and collectively jumped into a huge cardboard box-looking thing. That whole day blew my mind: from that, to Jim Rose walking around with a megaphone screaming at my friend Gabe, to the Frogs in blackface, to the Breeders covering GBV, to some cute girls sharing their drugs with us.

I still regret seeing Luscious Jackson on the second stage and missing most of the P-Funk All Stars set, though.

Hah, it was Tribe Called Quest that I missed, and in order to see Stereolab. I think I got the better end of that deal. Also, I had just bought the Breeders "Head To Toe" single about a week before that show, so I was really excited when they played not only the original title track but also the cover of GBV's "Shocker In Gloomtown." I was hoping they'd go the whole way and cover Sebadoh's "Freed Pig" during the set too, but they didn't.

I sold that single for five bucks in 1995. What the fuck was I thinking. I bet I could get $50 for it now, not that I'd ever get rid of it if I still had it.

...to the Frogs in blackface...

Did they break out the sequined green bat costume? That thing fucking rocks.

Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun

By the way Doctor Bob this is probably a record you SHOULD know.

I'll second that! Although they've made years and years' worth of interesting music, I think Vision Creation Newsun and Super Ae are twin masterpieces that the Boredoms will be remembered for.

New Sun!

I had just bought the Breeders "Head To Toe" single about a week before that show, so I was really excited when they played not only the original title track but also the cover of GBV's "Shocker In Gloomtown."

Was that a good single? I never really gave that record a chance. I have a 10" single of it which I only ever listened to once or twice. I only remember being so disappointed by it compared to all their other records which I'd loved until then. I wonder what it was really like - I probably should've given it a better listen to be honest. Although, I never really liked anything they did after that.

The original track is pretty punky sounding--faster and snottier than anything else I've ever heard by them. The covers are pretty failthful, more cool because it's the Breeders doing them than because they shone new light on the songs themselves. I really liked the original, and miss owning it, but I'd be willing to bet that you'd hate it.

It's the awkwardly crossed arms that just make the case.

Not that- it's more to prevent the frustration that arises when I revisit the pages in future and the images have disappeared.  If the artist's name and record title are included in the post, then all is well.

Why do I revisit the old threads?

Can we link up all the album covers ever posted in any version of this thread? Do it, Doctor.

I like a challenge.
