i hope someone does come in to defend cake, i think that would be a really interesting discussion. my fondness for cake has been diminishing recently, but i'll stand by their first album and many songs thereafter being pretty pretty good.

I liked Fashion Nugget but I guess I never really felt the need to seek out any of the rest of it.  From what I understand, you can pretty much pick one album and stick with it and get all you're going to get out of Cake anyway.

That is pretty true, but there are gems on each album. Cake is one of those bands that put out good, but not great albums. But if you made a personal 'Greatest Hits' mix, it'd be like the greatest thing ever.

Yeah, it takes a harder heart than mine to hate on Fashion Nugget.  And about a third of the songs on Prolonging the Magic are good.  After that not so much.

Fashion Nugget is awesome. It's my favorite, and IMO the most consistently good record from start to finish.

i've always wondered when their greatest hits album is going to come out. jesus, their label is sitting on their hands with that one. i have none of their albums, but i'd buy a best-of right away.
