MOUNTAIN GOATS EARLY RECORDINGS TO BE REISSUED
2005 looks to be a good year to return to releasing records, and we'll be starting off with two long-promised reissues of some early Mountain Goats albums, 1994's Zopilote Machine (their first full-length release not on the cassette format) and 1996's Nothing for Juice, which features collaborations with Graeme Jefferies from the Cakekitchen/This Kind of Punishment and was one of the last MG albums featuring the primary lineup of John Darnielle and Rachel Ware. Zopilote will be released on limited-edition vinyl for the first time, while NFJ will be CD-only since it was released on vinyl by our old label Ajax way back when. We'll have some MP3s for your listening pleasure and preordering information in a few weeks.
cool
i wonder if there are going to be any bonus tracks or anything

Ye gods! That's brilliant... I recently lost an auction for Zopilote, the bidding topped out at fifty or sixty dollars. I was crestfallen, to say the least.

First, Metal Machine Music, then Gary Higgins... and now this... oh boy oh boy, this is GREAT news... i've been waiting for that Zopilote reissue for so long... i'll be able to delete the MP3's and do everything nice and legal-like...
fifty or sixty dollars at auction!! imagine that, people... imagine if your rare early work (in whatever you do) was fetching prices like that at auction... wouldn't that feel really GOOD?... like people shouting out song requests at a gig or something... i mean, i wouldn't actually know... but that would feel pretty great, i imagine...

I'm sure getting royalties from sanely priced reissues that fans can actually buy would feel a LOT better.

well sure... there's always the calming, reassuring money to consider... but aside from that, you know...

at half.com, when i was selling a lot dvds there, i always got a kick out of seeing the used price for
zopilote
...always up in the $90s. i got mine...actually, i'm not sure where i got mine, but i know i didn't pay more than $15 for it, and it was eiter wuxtry records or low yo yo stuff in athens.
seriously though, you people who don't have it.....TELL me you haven't been living this long without a good copy of "going to georgia" laying around. i've put that song on more mixes than any other song ever...by a long shot. and i routinely cite the opening lines of the second verse as my favorite lyric.

What would they put on there that hasn't already been heard by the sorts of people who'll buy them, though?

From Tim Adams at 3BOS:
Quote
There won't be any extra songs on either release,
sorry. The only thing new will be Zopilote on
vinyl for the first time, in a small edition of around
500. The CD versions will be close to identical to the
Ajax versions, with some minor typography changes.
