The prole beers of choice 'round here are most assuredly High Life and the Beast with a fair amount of PBR gettin' passed around as well. I can drink any of 'em in a pinch but like someone else said, only if they're ice cold

In my experience Budweiser is the drink of Ralph Lauren shirt wearing, crew cut styling dudes who like to go fag bashing on a Saturday night.

But it's like, if you had a friend who listened to Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits 1974-1978 over and over again, and that was the only album he'd ever listen to, and you wanted this dude to expand his horizons or something, so you'd suggest all this other music for him to listen to, and he wouldn't even bother, just play Steve Miller again, all closing his eyes and singing along with "I'm a midnight toker" and completely ignoring the tons of different--not even judging, not even saying

I tend not to drink home alone for the most part, but I had a nice cool beer (a La Chouffe on tap) with a colleague after work today, and it was so great that I couldn't resist the temptation of picking up a few bottles of beer while I was grocery shopping afterwards. So I'm now enjoying a Westmalle Dubbel and thinking about how I should definitely do this more often.
Heh, I have totally been doing the same thing lately, on and off (pretty much when it gets really hot). The other day a friend of my brother's who was visiting along with him left a bottle of Tripel Karmeliet, and I've enjoyed the hell out of it last night. I should really go to the beer store at some point and pick up a bottle of La Chouffe to finally see what that's about (or did I ever taste it in Vienna and Maastricht? Could be, but I don't remember)
Nice!
I don't really know whether we had any La Chouffe when you were in Maastricht, I'm thinking maybe so. The logo has a gnome on it, if that helps. I did have a La Chouffe glass in Vienna, but I doubt we ever had a bottle of it together, I only ever brought one bottle with me and I don't think that was while you were there.
Since I assume you usually have only one beer after work when you're on your own, you might want to get that bottle when you have someone to share it with, because it's only sold in big bottles (0.75l), at least that's all I've ever seen in Maastricht and Belgium.
Or, y'know, come to Maastricht, where every other bar seems to have it on tap!

As for Budweiser, I've never had it, but I suggest as a compromise that the Official Beer of the World Revolution TM could be its namesake, Budvar.

Which, though it is named after its town of Budweis and has been around for centuries, has to be marketed as Czechvar in the States due to a trademark dispute with you-know-who.

Oh yeah, I remember wondering what was up with that last time I went to the store, as they indeed only had big bottles. I suppose you have to come here and help me drink that bottle, then, instead of suggesting I travel all the way up to your silly town to drink it from the tap!
(okay, okay, that actually doesn't sound bad - I'd love to, but I'm afraid my holidays are fully booked for now!)

Budweiser ain't the devil or anything, but the corporation Annheuser-Busch would be razed more quickly and bloodily than Coca-Cola or McDonald's, if I had my way.

In the town where I grew up,
Greatest Hits 1974-1978
is in every jukebox in every bar in town, just like every bar has Bud, Bud Light, and Old Milwaukee on tap. Doesn't matter whether it's a country bar, an old man's bar where they shake salt into their Old Milwaukee drafts, pool hall (though it must be said that in the pool hall the jukebox goes through Kid Rock albums like it was a random orbital sander, they play that shit so much. Still, the Steve Miller album is in there), college bar, dance club, whatever. If there's a jukebox, it has that album in it. Can't say I've ever listened to

I'm having trouble coming to grips with the final sentence of that post considering the four preceding it
Also Budweiser isn't actually that horrible, it just tastes like a watery American lager which it is. I like Miller brands a bit better, but unless it's MGD or High Life, they're virtually indistinguishable. I actually like Coors Light a whole lot. Shit'll kill a werewolf.

I have heard the song. I have not heard the album davy mentioned. Surely this distinction does not need to be explained. Though looking at the tracklist at AMG, it does seem like about half the songs on it are on the Greatest Hits comp I mentioned.

Jeez, people. Sometimes a cold, mildly alcoholic malt beverage is just a cold, mildly alcoholic malt beverage.
Related question-- are there any good beers that come in cans? Bottles are a hassle to carry anywhere.

To be fair, it wasn't the anti-Bud contingent who busted out the "beer of the proletariat" claim that started us down this dark dark road

My impression has always been that you can put good beer into cans, but there's no way you're going to get good beer out of a can. It's not a problem of the beers so much as a problem of the cans.
I wish I didn't feel so strongly about this because, yes, bottles are a hassle to carry around.

You can find some fancy-looking stouts and other englishy things that come in those big cans with the widgets... I'm not the guy to ask if any are actually tasty, but my friend's dad seems to drink Bodington's or something with regularity.

Define "good"
I mean, if Bud is the threshold then, dumbish, meet my good friend Miller High Life
xpost: I've always thought that the Boddington's and Guiness that come in those widget cans come out tasting really weird.

blake, you're my homie and all, but I come from Budweiser country, and if Budweiser is the beer of the proletariat, the proletariat are a bunch of fucking assholes.
man, what the hell WAS I on about? To be honest I'm not sure! Sometimes I get all worked up and propound my fiery rhetoric for empty causes!
Too much gin, friends.
I didn't really believe in my cause, I mean a beer of the proletariat? Jesus.

It's awesome on draft, for sheezy, all warm and buttery and such. I just don't like the cans; they seem to make it weirdly over-carbonated yet somehow still flat-tasting.
