Since I'm an ordained minister in the Church of the Internets, I was certified to perform my sister's recent civil union ceremony.  I had to go to the golden-domed state house up in Concord to get an additional legal certification, though.  Here's me holding both certificates, getting to ready to perform some gay marriages, living free in lieu of dying.

It certainly looks official!

(But now we have the dilemma of choosing between Greg and Jeb to perform lptj ceremonies.)

Greg Nog you're starting to remind me of a young hank scorpio.

all you need to do is dye your hair red and your set.  also create an evil multinational conglomerate set on taking over the world.  but i assume you're already well on your way with that.

Recording drums with one mic hanging down from the ceiling is kinda awesome though. Not the key to a great recording, but still pretty awesome.

Doesn't Steve Albini just hang two area mics over drumsets?

i've got most of my best drum recordings by doing that. i can never get the mic in the right place for the kick drum and it always ends up sounding way different to the rest of the drums on playback, so at the moment i'm just saying fuck off kick drum mic and placing the better of my two mics in a spot above the drummer's head. it gives it a kind of homely/musty feel that works just fine with my boring ass schmindiepop.

'cote's pictures are blocked for me though so i can't see exactly how he's doing it or with what mic, though. a lot of people i've spoken to have said that if you're using more than three mics, you're doing it wrong, and if you're using more than one you better be doing it damn right else you're still doing it wrong. sometimes simple things sound better than intricately worked things.

also jim your food pics always make me so damn hungry.

We had six drum tracks for this last recording. Close mics on the bass drum, snare, and the two toms, plus stereo overhead. And you know what? The drums sound fucking awesome.

Anyway, Albini has recorded drums with just one overhead, but it's hardly the norm:

Quote from: Steve Albini
I have miked drums in quite a few different ways. Sometimes I'll just have an overhead microphone and a bass drum microphone. Normally there are close mics on all the drums, as well as ambient microphones, and a stereo microphone in front of the drum kit for cymbals. It's hard to describe where I place them and it varies a lot. If the drummer plays very lightly, then there's a lot of attack and not a lot of tone, and I want the microphone to look at the contact point of the snare drum. If the drummer is playing very hard and he's exciting the whole drum, I usually have to back the microphone off a little bit so that it's not overloading. For the ambient mics I'll walk around the room and see where it sounds good, and I usually have them on the floor to take advantage of the boundary effect, and to minimise early reflections.

Those are nice pictures, Heathcote - looks like fun. Some people are just jealous of your youth and beauty.

Now that looks like a hell of a camping trip. And that picture of you on top of a mountain is great.

our bassist found this picture taken of us at Nophest this summer.  What's odd is I don't remember anyone actually being there, much less a photographer.
