Later we cut to a shot of some strawberries being thrown through a cascade of white chocolate and you realize it's just a commercial for some shitty aspartame-saturated yogurt

Hey, anyone here ever done Lasik? I'm doing a consultation next week to see if my eyes can be fixed by having lasers shot at them.

Oh hey it's me again. I had Lasik yesterday and it turns out getting shot in the face with laser beams does amazing things. So long, glasses.

Wow, that was quick turnaround. I didn't see your OP at the time, but I'm glad it worked out well for you (I've not had it done, nor will I, I reckon - it's not so good for people as short-sighted as I am, but I've got friends and family who got it done, and they're thrilled with it.) My dad's cataract surgery fixed his vision problems for good.

Yeah, the turnaround was pretty quick. I went in for a consultation two Saturdays ago and they did a bunch of tests on my eyes and were like, "Yeah, we can fix this. How does next Wednesday sound?" The surgery itself took a grand total of like 5 minutes, so it's pretty easy for them to get quite a few procedures done in a short time. I have to put drops in my eyes 6 times a day for the next week, but that's less of a hassle in the long run than, y'know, glasses...

Guys, this is so weird. My vision is getting noticeably better as the day goes on. Which, I guess that's just how it works, but man, pretty surreal.

That's excellent!

Was it all out of pocket, or did any kind of insurance cover it?

My insurance didn't cover it, but I had a pretty good sum saved up in an HSA through my job, and I've been putting like 30 bucks/paycheck into that (plus a portion matched by my employer) for the last 4 years or so. That covered most of it, and the little that's left to pay I'll be able to cover in monthly payments that are essentially the same as my HSA contributions for the next year or so.

Thanks for talking it up Josh. I've been thinking about maybe doing it if I get around to it. In my case, it's something to ponder, because I've been told that because my astigmatism is very irregular and I am extremely nearsighted, the only way for me to get 20/20 vision is to get wavefront Lasik and wear glasses on top of that--which is sort of a funny outcome, but to be real, in my line of work (as with so many people's) the eyestrain associated with not being able to see as clearly as one ought to even with corrective lenses does start to wear on a person.

Everybody I know who's had lasik has been thrilled with it. I am pretty comfortable with glasses (I have contacts but don't usually bother to wear them) but if my vision were worse or my glasses more annoying, I  might go for it.

That's pretty awesome Josharino! One of my best buds had his lasik paid for by the army before he got out, he  loves it.

I was okay with my glasses for a long time, but lately they'd been getting on my nerves, and I fall asleep wearing them a lot and they'd get all mushed up, or the nosepieces would get bent all out of shape if I didn't pull on a t-shirt just right, and I was long overdue to get new ones and all that and I thought, "what the heck, maybe I should just look into Lasik" and now here I am. I had the surgery yesterday and today I can see as well as I was able to see with my glasses, and it's supposed to get better and better over the next couple weeks. My deal also covers any work or corrections that might need to be done in the next year, if any. But this is seriously blowing my mind, after over 15 years of glasses all of a sudden I put in some cheat code into life's console and now I can see without them.

So far I've been getting a lot of "Something is different here but I'm not sure what so I'm not going to say anything" sort of looks. Only a couple of folks have immediately noticed that I'm not wearing glasses.

Had a checkup today, tomorrow is 7 weeks since I had the surgery, and my vision is up to 20/15. Holy crap!

The only times I know of when I have seen him not wearing glasses is when he has just woken up.  And once, I think when we had BOTH just woken up and started eating leftover pizza.
