Yeah, clearly when a woman complains about sexism it's because she just wants attention.

Go fuck yourselves.

Fuck a dick.  I didn't say anything like that--I was just saying that this is getting that video 900x more youtube views than it would otherwise get.

That was mainly directed at Mary.

Also, yeah, no, Amanda Palmer is pretty famous.

Putting "controversies" in scare quotes and acting like the only issue at hand was if they were right about her being too fat or not was pretty douchey of you, though.

And, you know, the overall "LOOKS SHOPPED" mentality of both your posts.

Controversy aside, this was the first time I'd ever heard of Amanda Palmer.  I can safely say two things:

1)  The aforementioned song, "Leeds United", is fantastic.

2)  Every other one of her songs I've given a listen to are just horribly, cringe-inducingly bad.

My experience was identical to Greg's.

I'd heard of the Dresden Dolls mind, but (correctly) deduced from what I'd heard of them that they were not my thing.

Though I'm definitely in that band's corner, in the sense that even though I didn't much like the music, I'd much rather this lady be the role model for awkward lower-middle class teenage girls than that lady from Evanescence or whatever.

also Blucas can't you understand the uncommon chivalry it takes to withhold judgment on whether she is a fatty or not based on lack of evidence.

edit: HAHAHAHAHA GREG GO WATCH THE 'OASIS' VIDEO NOW.

blucas i'd urge you to think for a second that somebody might read somethign different out of one situation than you, and that they're not saying something along the lines of  'when a woman complains about sexism its just because she wants attention' just because they read a situation different from you.  hell, maybe mary was being sarcastic herself but seeing in this one situation a pr stunt does not equal = 'everytime a woman complains of sexism she's just tryign to get attention'

that's putting words into mary's mouth (thoughts into her mind?) that she's never said.  and so you come up with an extreme response of what is a huge distortion of the persons original comment.  i know these issues are important to you, but i'd take a second each time before you react extremely to someone's comment to make sure 'are they really saying what i'm going to assume they're saying'  'go fuck yourself' seemed like a completely unmerited response.

Woman complains about sexism.

Mary posts that it must be a PR stunt, despite a total lack of evidence.

I fail to see how I'm putting words in anyone's mouth.

you know i forgot how you can't state your opinion without being told to go fuck yourself on here as of late.

something happened on here in the time i took a hiatus and since i've been back there has been a serious shift. a shift i don't find enjoyable.

it's unfortunate because i used to find it very enjoyable here and there seemed to be a more respectful exchange of ideas, thoughts, etc.

so there you go. the monster has been driven out of town.

i'm done here.

Man, I can't concentrate at all today. My presentation for tomorrow is still only half-finished, and really, this is one I'd rather not fuck up, but I can't bring myself to actually work on it. I literally spent half of a day thinking "yeah, I should really get started on this now", but never actually doing it. During the first half of the day, I was doing all sorts of other minor tasks (mostly teaching-related) instead, so I figured perhaps I should better leave the office and try to work from home, where I'm less tempted to be distracted by this kind of thing. Well, I've been home for 3 hours now and what I got done since then were only some minor cosmetic corrections (the kind that take 10 minutes to implement, if that) since doing so. And now I'm actually in the same position again, thinking, "oh, perhaps I should go back to the office, I might be more productive there". Argh.

Hey, that's what half of my days are like! Good luck with getting more productive, though (I think you'll do good whether you're underprepared or not, anyway, 'cause you're not going to run out of things to say about your research).

Thanks! I'm surely not worried about running out of things to say, I am worried about having too much to say and thus not focusing on the things that are the most relevant and should be discussed within the time constraints that I have.

Oh okay, I understand - there are worse problems to have, though, and I'm sure people will have time for questions if they didn't get enough details on a particular point. Good luck!

OT: It is 8 and I've been at work for half an hour already. This in itself is sort of good, but the reason is because I woke up at 4.30 and got up at 6. This is going to be a painfully long day.
