Cachaca is good stuff! I want to try some more of it. How do you drink it, jim?

I know you didn't ask me, but I'm going to be a buttinsky and suggest cutting a lime into chunks and muddling with lime and powdered sugar, then shaking vigorously with ice and cachaca. Serve in small martini glass with sprig of mint, no soda or other mixer. Just a small, very intense, bright-tasting couple of ounces.

PS you can use simple syrup if the sugar precipitates.

is that called caiprinhas or something? I see this stuff on tv all the time, and it seems that Brazilian cocktails/liquors are the most fun things to say. If only they were cheap...

Arghhhhhh we just got a National/Act government. This is very, very depressing. I would like to stab Roger Douglas, he was meant to be a past nightmare that never came back to NZ politics. Sad Sad Sad

Pretty much. Caipirinhas (which are DELISH) have no mint garnish, are muddled with a different (darker, grainier) type of sugar, and are generally served over ice. If I didn't make it clear, I recommend straining mine. People who like caipirinhas often also like mojitos, which are served with soda and ice, and muddled with mint.
