There's two kinds of maraschino cherries - There's the bad kind that we have most of the time and then there's the good kind which are cured in maraschino liquor.

It's a texture thing. I don't like the way the ice cream gets sort of crunchy when it touches the soda. I always think I'll like it, but I never actually do. . . Jameson, on the other hand. . .

1. I like to think of Maaik as being sugary and bitter at the same time.

2. Maybe I'll look for these bitter liquor cured cherries.

3. I'm so glad this thread is on page 20--I always hated this title. It took me forever to find the drinking thread every time I went to post in it.

Since we're talking bourbon, I feel compelled to post.
It's not that Bulleit is bad, it's just not as good as the others at its price point (Knob Creek).
Manhattans. Yeah, if bourbon didn't work for you, doubt that rye will. I like the spicier, less sweet bourbons (eg, Knob Creek, Elijah Craig) for this job. Smoother bourbons (eg, Woodford Reserve) just get lost in the shuffle, and Maker's and the like would be adding sugar to sugar to sugar, which I don't like because I'm not 12 anymore.
The reason I don't make more bourbon drinks is that I like the stuff neat just fine. I find myself planning on making the cocktail, but when I pour the liquor and see it in the glass, my brain just says "Done!"

I like to add a dash of bitters to a neat bourbon sometimes, especially if it's toward the sweeter end of the spectrum

CITY SLIQUORS.

I'm not sure if I can actually shop there.  I prefer the faux-respectability of a Domenic's, or the straight-up ghetto style of the place where everything's behind bulletproof glass.

The girl noticed their new awning and told me to check it out (it's on the walk from my place to the Tusk practice space), and though I've made the walk four or five times since, there's some kind of good-taste mental block happening that keeps me from looking.
