So, decided to look into quantum physics the other day after watching an episode of The Universe on parallel universes. I've seen some other episodes but this one struck me as "my brain hurts...but this is so f'n cool."

I've heard of some of the concepts before through my recent gen. chem. class, but never took the time to grasp the potential of each of the theories (on a general level...I don't think I know enough math yet to really get the formulas behind some of them.) but it was really enlightening to my understanding of our nature and the subjectivity of it. Not since doing a report on Goethe did I get a sense of endless potential.

So here is a video of a real spaced out, but intelligent Physicist Robert Anton Wilson (with the background LSD effect being delibrate I suppose  Drool)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEZtw1yt8Kc

And here is the first part of that episode (which you can watch succesively from there) of The Universe

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD1LhIm5ncI

All these ideas also inspired me to write a short prose piece which I may post if people would want to read. It's kind of ridiculous and "pretentious" but it's what came to me during a short, rare, spurt of creativity.

Heh, I didn't know Robert Anton Wilson was a physicist. I thought he was just an insane sci-fi author.

Yea, I think I jumped the gun. As far as the omniscient Wikipedia is concerend he only had a Ph.D in psychology and no documentation (that I can find) of formal education in the field of physics. Sorry for the confusion. I fucked up. I'm not saying I fully believe what he says either, I just found it interesting that he posited some thoughts that I've had before (particulalry people all having different perceptions, or "reality tunnels" as he puts it). Word.

not to say RAW is entirely uninformed on quantum physics, but if youre going to listen to someone whos entirely uninformed on a subject, it may as well be him. google "8 circuits of consciousness"

All you had to do was start a thread containing "quantum physics" and "LSD".

Also I've not seen the movie but from what I've heard that poster is probably an accurate representation.

That movie was one of the most infuriating hour-and-a-halfs I ever spent in a theatre.

I kept seeing things all over the place being like, "Weirdly structured!  Crazy ideas!" and I was like, "That sounds like exactly what I want to see!"  Oh my god, I was wrong.

We should rewrite that film based on the poster, wherein young Jamal Jenkins, a telekinetic who commands a merciless battery of sports equipment, brings down Marlee Matlin's benevolent dystopian space-dictatorship

See when you are a physics person you can usually tell intuitively when ∫dxψ*ĉψ of this kind of stuff = crap

That was a quantum physics joke guys do you get it.

By far the greatest line in the last Futurama movie was the Professor's, "As Deepak Chopra taught us, quantum physics means anything can happen at any time for no reason!  Also, eat plenty of oatmeal, and animals never had a war.  Who's the REAL animal?"

Oh, man, I gotta track down that Futurama episode just to hear that line. Are they still making new episodes of that show?

Yeah. I liked it all right.  Better than the other two, definitely.  The professor had a few other good lines in it, so that's something.

I imagine Feynman's serious texty science tomes aren't nearly as entertaining as his other stuff? Surely You're Joking and What Do You Care are two of my favorite nonfic books ever.

yeah, those are great.  QED was pretty entertaining, but not quite as much of a rollicking good time as those.
