My apartment is a beautiful 62 right now -- warm enough to enjoy myself, cold enough to get my cat snuggling up to my lap.

Chase it!  That always gets my blood going.

Heat in included in my rent too, but that also means I don't control it--I have a radiator next to the window and it turns on and off when and if it feels like it. This usually also means that I wake up all sweaty at three in the morning because it is 90 fucking degrees.
I have gotten rides to and from work the past two days so the most time I have spent outside is the time it takes to smoke a cigarette on a break (also the time it takes to get from car door to work door and car door to apartment building door), and that is enough.

Smokers are suckers.

As I mentioned elsewhere, my place was without power and heat for 24 hours, from 10 PM Thursday until 10 PM Friday. A flooded water station took down a huge chunk of Toronto - about 100 000 people, I think, with it only beginning to come back for the lucky few after 18 hours or so. I was able to score some free beer and food out of my cousin, whose home was warm.

Takes a long time for a place to heat up, too, hey? I've had heat again for 12 hours now and it's taken that long to get back to normal, even with adding a space heater for half the night. And my place is totally small.

Now I have to figure out what fridge stuff is probably OK and what isn't, although maybe everything's OK, since my whole place was a fridge while the power was out.

So, should I shovel this snow now or wait until it stops raining? If I shovel now, am I just asking for a crazy slick sidewalk?

And damn, if the power went out I'd probably end up in a tent outside burning things in my grill. I have no idea.

If the temperature's above freezing, wait for the rain to wash it away.  If below freezing, shovel now.

The other day when it was actually snowing, the poor caretaker was out shoveling the walks all by herself. Now that the walkways are all glazed with ice, the entire maintenance crew is out there scraping and salting. I should just go outside and take a great big spill.

I slipped in the snow twice so far this week, yesterday on my bike as I was shortcutting a long light over the sidewalk (that's my rule, only fall on sidewalks, that way you don't get runned over) that was icier than it looked, and today hopping from my neighbour's (shovelled) walk to my own (unshovelled) walk. Damn lazy landlord.

Fortunately my catlike reflexes kept me unscathed both times. It's all in the reflexes.

The snow turned to rain today, which was unfortunate.  I wish it had just snowed all day.  Still, better than summer!

Man, Greg, if you had to either walk or bike everywhere you wanted to go, I think you'd have a different opinion.

I bike everywhere and I think I do prefer snow to rain.

Hah, well, here in VA it doesn't generally rain except in the colder months, so I guess I associate rain in general with winter.

I do take the subway a lot, but you may be underestimating how much time I spend walking around outside.

The rain didn't actually wash the snow away here. I have a driveway and sidewalk full of what looks like very heavy slush. I should probably go out soon and try to clear it before the whole thing freezes. I'm SO done with winter!

I think the crowds mostly go on Wednesday, as that's when they roll out their new brews, and weekends, 'cause it's the weekend; I believe Thursday was hoped to be less crowded.
