I'd like to note that when Chet was encouraging me to buy Dead Space, milly told me it was rent-not-buy. I'm still considering it, but now I want to hear what davy thinks!

The Pitt is up again for Fallout 3. Downloading AGAIN. Hope it works this time!

Keep in mind, I'm playing it on PC.

re: The Pitt

It's not glitching anymore, so the new download's good. It's very dark--literally dark and hard to see things. One of the achievements is for finding 100 steel ingots. Fucking hell, why would I want to do that? (You do get some sort of prize for every 10, but still, yawn.) Anchorage was only good for the cool gear, this is an actual game where you can talk to people and stuff. I just wish it was on the same map as the rest of the game so it would be easier to go back there (or fast travel out).

Dead Space goes on the list. (likely behind "car")

Jeb is also ready to play zombies. I hope they deliver an unbroken television this time!

It's pretty damn awesome. I'm torn between being terrified of the story and the setting and being in awe of the gameplay/menu interfacing.

. . . and a tip: It played fine for my evil character (level 10), but I wanted to try the quest the other way with my good character (level 20) and glitch--a quick search tells me that this is happening to everyone who tries to  play with a level 20 character, so I guess go back to an earlier save.

Fucking crap. I do not want to go back to an earlier save. Stupid fucking Bethesda. Don't pick your release date until after you're sure everything works right, you FUCKS.

I'll get back to you, but there's something I want to try before I write this character off. I still might be able to start the quest yet! Otherwise, I totally agree with you.

When are we zombies?

. . . and edit, but a little spoilery (just a tiny bit, honest) You can play with a level 20 character (so far) if you tell Wernher you don't need a disguise. You can still pick one up before you'll need it to get into The Pitt, just not at the slave pen. The problem was, the slave that was supposed to be dead didn't appear in my game, and if you take a costume from another slave it's negative karma.

Is it like Fallout?
(kidding)

People were complaining about the controls or the menu or something being clunky. I'm not good at buttons or maps, remember. . . but it is one that I'm considering.

Yeah, it's a bit clunky, but I got over it pretty quick. And yeah, I'd say it's like Fallout. Or, rather, how Fallout ought to be, in a lot of ways. A bit closer to the first two than the third, in that it actually has, well, personality, and good acting.

Exactly why I think Dead Space is so bad ass right now. The way you access panels and displays and maps in this game is so intuitive and fresh.

So is the RROD pretty much inevitable?

despite how well it fits with microsoft's subscription-based business model to have you buy another box every couple of years, i don't think it's inevitable. that said, i've not even had mine for a year yet, so couldn't possibly speak from personal experience.

As you may recall, I had RROD problems out of the box with 2 Xbox 360s in a row, both of them from the original generation of 360s.  I think the newer generation, the ones with the HDMI interfaces, are more reliable.  After the 2 bad ones, I bought one of those (someplace other than the world's shittiest Walmart where I bought the first 2), and I've had it for what, a year and a half now?  Inevitable, probably, for a given value of inevitable, but it's still possible to have a good experience with them.

I bought mine late last year and I think it was after another hardware reconfiguration to pare down the RROD risk, so hopefully it'll at least be awhile before it happens

There's some information on the internet as to what the different light configurations mean. It's possible that the console is just overheating or that one of the cables has come loose. But yeah, I would be very sad if my XBox broke.

If my xBox died I'd carry it to a crude stone altar in the forest and let a topless woman stab it with a dagger a couple of times

damn I'm really itching to read some Conan

Fucking hell. second tip: Save A LOT, like every time you enter or exit a building or talk to anyone. I was about to exit a building and leave The Pitt probably forever and the game froze. That autosave is labelled as "corrupt" and my previous save means I have to go through a bunch of crap (like an hour and a half of playing) all over again. It's STILL glitchy! The auto axe is disgusting, by the way, for those of you who like that sort of thing.
